  1. gold medal hockey yesterday...

True but curling is a sport only because someone called it a sport, sort of like the little girls twirling toilet paper streamers and synchronized swimming, and golf is played against one's self, not watched. Hockey and soccer are actual team sports. Incredibly boring but team sports nonetheless.
  2. gold medal hockey yesterday...

Hockey? One of the few things more boring that hockey is soccer. Any game where people play for endless hours and the score is something like 1 to 0 is somewhat less than thrilling.
  3. Help Identifying a Font

Most type faces used in logos for major brands are custom for that logo. There usually isn't a commercially available type face that will match. In this case there's 'Sonic Cut' that, with a little diddling on the bottoms of the 'E's, will get you as close as your likely to come.
  4. Wood look substrate

Ease down to your local Home Depot, Lowes, or whatever and pick up some High pressure laminate flooring. Pergo, Taylor, etc. It comes in a bewildering variety of woods and colors. The stuff is maybe 1/4-5/16 thick, comes in ~8x36 strips and has a precision tongue and groove that will permit...
  5. Be safe iSign and Artildawn...

Think, as foreign a sensation as that may be for you... Here's a tidal wave tooling along at hundreds miles per hour. In order to sense anything about it that would be detectable by whatever senses something might possess before the tsunami arrives whatever thing that is being sensed must be...
  6. Be safe iSign and Artildawn...

No, it is not a fact. There exists nothing but anecdotal evidence to support any notion that non-humans have possess some sort of violent upheaval or any other sort prediction capabilities. Stories of how someone's dog howled and then the wind blew or whatever are meaningless. How many times...
  7. Oraguard 290F help?

(pi*outer_diameter-pi*core_diameter)/media_and_backing_thickness And for those educated in public schools pi=3.14159265...
  8. Are all grommet machines created equal?

Regardless of your prejudices all manual grommet presses do exactly the same thing in exactly the same way. It matters not a whit the length of the lever, what color it is, or whether it's screwed to a chunk of board. If you're setting enough grommets that any of the micro differences between...
  9. Wise Guy, eh?!

Back it the days of One Shot and quills I was asked numerous times "Do you do that free hand?" to which I always replied "No, I use a brush."
  10. What formula do you use to quote a job?

A good friend owns a gas station and mini mart. Every morning he drives by a competitor's operation, sees what their gas prices are, and sets his accordingly. Every afternoon minions of the competition drive by his station, sees what his gas prices are, and sets theirs accordingly. Madness. A...
  11. Say it ain't so, Shamu!

I just suffered through some network news being reporting on this incident. It was about five minutes of drivel liberally laced with adjectives like 'attack', 'vicious', 'unprovoked', 'horrifying' and a host of other pejoratives. There is not a shred of evidence to support any of these terms...
  12. Wine Logo

Using two or more scripts in the same locale is really dubious typography. Other than that it's, shrug, whelming.
  13. xc-540 cutter not cutting corners well in small type

If you're moving a big chunk of media and you want to mitigate any inertia/standing waves/flapping about/whathaveyou it might be a Good Idea.
  14. Wine Logo

If you absolutely have to use those awful tiles at least render the text such that it looks like part of the tile and not something stuck on the surface. Here's a 30 second example that could use some tuning...
  15. X5

You might want to reconsider that decision. Historically Corel's even number releases have been merely cosmetic tweeking and the odd numbered releases have sported actual functional additions and upgrades. If you're going to skip releases you're better off to skip the even numbered releases.
  16. Red color on flexi 8.6

It's perfectly possible and reasonable to hit a good red. You have to understand your gear and don't obsess with having the same color on your monitor that will come out of your printer. That way lies madness. Set your rendering intents to no color correction for everything except bitmaps...
  17. xc-540 cutter not cutting corners well in small type

Classic symptoms of a dirty up/down blade actuator. Remove any dust covers and briskly blow the dust and crud out the mechanism. Replace any dust covers. Pay little attention to anyone suggesting you diddle your offset setting. Incomplete cutting is usually not a symptom of an improper offset.
  18. off gassing large wraps!

You only suspect it, you don't know it. The plural of anecdote is not data. Come up with some before and after data done with proper instrumentation in a double blind mode and you might have something. Without that all you have are stories to be told around the campfire.
  19. Premask Application Tape Technique?

I understand you completely, but unless you're some sort of mutant your hand is anything but straight and flat. That being the point. Assuming you mask starting on the right and working the mask down to the left. The object is to push the mask into contact with the vinyl such that all air...
  20. Wine Logo

Other than a piss poor use of space, worse use of color, and typography direct from a high school newsletter, it's OK I guess. Lose the ghastly copperplate with the ridiculous drop shadow and that awful dated script. Lose the silly tiles, they contribute nothing. Lose the rack of ball...
