If I had this issue I would do some testing. Crop and cut a couple panels from the job then install one wet one dry on the same window and see what happens.
Doing this will give you a better idea of what happened and formulate a repair plan.
Odd you had skewing. We've done many full rolls with our RS and it drifted about 1/2" consistently.
It did "eat" a lot of product until I figured out how to run it. Although I feel it is the same with any laminator.
We only have experience with a RS 1650(no heat). It has done everything we need it to do for the last seven years.
If I were in the market now I'd look at the USTech. Major bang for the buck. Some members here have them and are quite pleased with their performance.
One thing to know about...
I had similar issues with my SP540V. Encoder has nothing to do with cutting. But...it has everything to do with making the printer print exactly where its supposed to. My printer got to the point where there was a fairly repeatable error. Time to start looking.
I started taking exact anal...
We use Eco-Print from Imprintables Warehouse. Haven't done any super detailed cuts, but for what we've done it works great. Mike Koval can get you set up.

Client wants pricing on quantities of 20, 30, 40, 50.
0.016" Mill finish aluminum...
I just keep working with some of them. One in particular was just like your client. Whaddya want? I dunno, but its gotta POP!:banghead: In round figures it cost him 400 bucks in "design" work for his rear window graphic.
When we do the large graphics we buy the highest resolution file available or take or own photos. Then we use OnOne Perfect Resize to get where we need to be.
Nope. We've left our Roland for a week at a time on many occasions with zero issues. I never worry about it while on vacation. It stays plugged in 24/7 so it can do its programmed cleaning cycles.
IMO a lot of folks shut their printers down and unplug them when going away. That's where...
As usual these threads come down to personal preference. Nothing based on empirical data over years of operation. The biggest factor is buying your equipment from a vendor with fast, accurate service.
HP might be a good fit, but if you have to wait days for service when Roland is same or...
