Would be nice to think so. Good scanners, software and output equipment is ridiculously expensive. Just to keep his software up to date my friend spends about $10K a year. Solidworks, AutoCad, MasterCam along with a host of others geared towards his type of output. Can't imagine doing that...

If they are worried about scratching it might be better to make the windshields out of Lexan MR10 with MarGard. Everything from drag vehicles to roundy racers uses it with great success. In lieu of that what about an optically clear laminate? Could always get the full windshield tear-offs...

For heat what about infrared room heaters? They work great on single pane. They'll give a nice even heat with no scorching.(done January installs with them) Not sure about using on I.G. panels though.
