  3. Has anyone had this problem with their Summa cutter? (or it's native software)

The machine is a D-series S75. Love the darn thing. Today for some reason, it won't "see" the first registration mark. (the job is a Print/Cut job) Hunts around for it and quits. Jeff and I have checked everything we know to do. Any comments very welcome!

  12. In need of some beginner tips

Oh yeah, oil. You can use motor oil, but purists eschewed it for other types of natural oils. I think you can obtain "brush oil" from artists supply shops or if you're fortunate enough to have one nearby, a real honest to goodness sign supplier. Dont use lard oil. After cleaning your brush...
  13. In need of some beginner tips

You are on the right track. Always "can-off" just enough paint for the project. The real small paper dixie cups work good. Back when I painted signs by brush for a living, we use to fold up little boxes from spent time cards (just the right thickness) and use them for both the container of paint...

  17. Roland VersaWorks update Problems

I really appreciate your comments. We have an older model and everytime we updated there was problems. Finally stopped updating. Never did connect the idea that my machine is what they call a "legacy" machine which isn't supported like the newer ones. Still trying to get the new VSi. Might be a...
  18. Scanning Images into Vector Art

El Mustachio, I agree with your assessment of Composer's 4.0 abilities to provide decent vector from raster images. We completely do an end-run around Composer and take them directly into Corel X3. Using one of the 3 trace methods. They are very good in comparison. Use Composer for most other...
  19. Font ID please

I may be way out of line here, but I would not even try to find that font. Show the client something better. Both in the sign's layout and in the font. That thing is so dated looking. And the over-sized T, what's that? I find that sign to be so far from an inspired, sharp look it's not even...
  20. Wraps are dead...

Wraps are primarily commercial in nature. (some exceptions of course) Wraps are not dead. A car that has paint that changes color does not sell products, as wraps do. There is no advertising on that vehicle, although it's kind of cool.
