  1. Anyone remember being an apprentice

No horror stories, but I apprenticed in 1972. The guy running things was pretty good. Portland, Oregon. Went on to work in some non-union shops, mostly. Struck out on my own in '75. Failed once, now a raging success. I've been around a long, long time. Seen it all, small lettering on a jewelry...
  2. How to drop the Roland Color System Library into Gerber Omega Composer?

Does anyone know of a way to drop the Roland color swatches into Composer? Or are we simply up against Gerber's "closed" software policies? I know that my Corel X5 will do it. I have Omega 4.0, not the latest 5.0. I'm hoping there is a way. Any experts out there?
  3. File dimensions change when exporting. Help?

Will you kindly tell me what "zero origined" is? Thanks.
  4. File dimensions change when exporting. Help?

Does anyone know why a file exported from one program to another would change in dimension. Example: Tif file is 47.692" long @ 300 dpi. Bring it into VersaCam and the file's dimension is reduced by nearly 3 percent. Any help or explanation would be greatly appreciated.
  5. How to get it through a clients head that their artwork is useless!!!!!!

Ha, ha I feel your pain. We have a print of Marilyn Monroe ("stolen from the net", ie: google images) that is meant to show precisely that! On this print we have the original, about 2"x2" at 72 dpi. It looks pretty good. Right next to that print is an enlarged print of it and the client can...
  6. No wet application for Reflective vinyl...why?

My laminator is only 54" wide.
  7. No wet application for Reflective vinyl...why?

Does anyone know what the manufacturers objection to wet application is for Reflective vinyl? We have a job for (10) 60"x120" Reflective signs (on PolyMetal) and I'm trying to figure out how we will "sheet" it? ie: put a large chunk of vinyl down without wet application.
  8. Can you find some deals on printers at the NBM show?

Only you know what your time is worth. ie: time away from running your business, etc. But I would think that your time would be well spent if you go there prepared to cut a deal on a "show special". The optimum word being "prepared". Finally, quite often with show specials you might be able...
  9. Help with font identification please

Thanks Fred. Should have known that one. Brain dead. (where's my coffee cup?)
  10. Help with font identification please

    Name of this one?
  11. Roland soljet 540 problems

Six grand is a lot to put into a older (legacy) printer. I think I would contact a Roland dealer and try and make a deal on a new one, if they'll take yours in on trade. (it wouldn't cost the dealer 6K to replace the heads)
  12. Getting Ready to Take the Plunge -- What to Do About Health Insurance

Good for you, ol' timer. Glad you made it. Cancer's a b*tch. They tell me I'll live, that I'm cured, but I still watch everyday for some signs that it's back. I had so many CT scans in the first year that I actually became concerned that the amount of radiation I was receiving would kill me...
  13. Getting Ready to Take the Plunge -- What to Do About Health Insurance

Unbelievably cheap insurance! My wife and I were paying $1100. per month, until just recently. Went from about $800 a few years ago and steadily climbed to what it is today. Always groused and whined about the premiums (we're both pretty fit and healthy) until Pancreatic Cancer came along...
  14. Can you do something? How much? How soon?

Couple of examples Walked out to the front of our shop's showroom and snapped these. Any decent Trophy/Awards shop will have displays and catalogs full of this kind of thing.
  15. Customer backing out at last minute?

I get that point. I probably should have said, "if you back out, then do so, but accept the consequences". Be they a non-refundable deposit, or whatever.
  16. Can you do something? How much? How soon?

Hah, that's an easy one. Send 'em my way. lol. Any decent sized Trophy and Awards shop will either have something like that in stock or can order it, next day.
  17. make flat paint glossy (glossier)

Actually the paint if from Lowes. It's not their cheapest, it's their best! Paid $40.00 per gallon for it. Boxed them Saturday and painted a small section. Going home tonite to see it in daylight. If it's not glossy enough (just want a satin that's all) I'll add yet another gallon of the...
