  1. Vinyl for cornhole boards

its all in the finish. I've used cheap calendared vinyl AND cast vinyl, with the exact same results when finished with a water-based Polyurethane coat....pristine and long-lasting. if you don't coat the boards, they will rot over time anyways when moisture gets into the MDO.
  2. Glossy Candy Red

3M 1080 wrap film "Gloss Dragon Fire" red, would be my pick. 3M/Avery/Arlon/Oracal all have wrap color books you should be able to order from your vinyl supplier.
  3. New to CNC Routing

interesting, regarding misters shortening the life of your bit.... as my 1/4" Belin Spiral O upcut has been goin' strong now for about 6 dozen sheets of 1/8" aluminum. whenever the oil runs out, but the vortex air is still blowing, the chips still become molten and bind up on the bit until...
  4. Do you clean the stucco after changing the channel letters

Sign guys are usually the final touch on a project. If you're ok with throwing your hands in the air with a "not my problem" mentality, then I'm sure you'll occasionally find clients that are ok with it too.....but you'll ALWAYS lose the clients that expect more from you, and they won't be...
  5. Friday Fun: Current Playlists

Mumford & Sons & Foster the People are my favorite Pandora stations for driving. Just crushed back2back 11hr driving shifts bringing our new truck back from the ISA show in Vegas and they kept me in good company.
  6. Question Oracal vinyl problems

if you're exploring your options, HUGE fan of Arlon vinyls. that being said, I also use Oracal vinyls and I'm in the same region..... haven't had a failure yet. Although I don't use any of their calendared products.
  7. Need Help At what Ink level do you replace your ink

i keep an eye on it when <100mL remaining, but never feel bad about swapping the cartridge out at 40-60mL (<10%)
  8. New to CNC Routing

carbide upcut bits for metal. they're more expensive, but they last WAAYYYYYYY longer. if you don't have one already, get an oil mister system if you intend to route any metals regularly. uncertain what oraboard is, but for every material there's most likely a common problem that's solved...
  9. JV3-130SP new ink reads near end

the sensor that determines ink level on that machine is a spring loaded trigger that makes contact with the mylar bag thru the slot in the cartridge. you might just need to open up the side of the machine and see what's goin' on. its most likely just worn-out/catching and fixable with some...
  10. Need Help Looking for printed ribbon for cutting ceremonies for kids

200ft. AND tear-able...sounds like it won't last until the countdown. maybe do something more like a qty ~50 3ftx6inch banners with velcro, split on either-side of a larger 6inch banner in the center for the scissors. Scissors cut the middle of the "ribbon", and then the kids "shred" the rest...
  11. Need Help Silicone failure? Opinions needed!

silicone has ZERO strength when pressed-flat. vhb tape is a solid pairing because it holds the letter in place while the silicone cures AND allows for the silicone bead to be at least that thick. for smaller letters, I take some vinyl backing paper and lay-out some strips of VHB, peel the liner...
  12. Mimaki JV3 leaking ink

a pump is necessary to close the line. you most likely need to replace it, especially if its never been replaced before.... that machine is OLD. the printer operates like a siphon, firing the ink as it flows through, and stops the flow when parks on capping station attached to line that is...
  13. Suggestions Dust/lint on print

control your environment. clean area = less dust. higher humidity = less static. dirty printer = dirty prints most of the time, the culprit is in your printer....dust builds-up on surfaces over time, and gets knocked loose by moving parts & airflow. Areas on your printer, such as your...
  14. Arlon vinyls

Arlon Fusion/3170, 510&4500/3420 edited to add: "high performance calendared" is still just calendared, but I do love the performance of these intermediate vinyls for my "economy-line". i can't speak for the wrap-ability/longevity of anything but the DPF6000xrp, which is awesome.
  15. Suggestions Silicone or Construction Adhesive

VHB tape is awesome, and is just thick enough to give silicone a bead for strong adhesion. (smoosh silicone completely flat, it doesn't hold for long) the combination of the two, I have yet to see fail.
  16. Arlon vinyls

love arlon. love 3M. but don't love 3M more than Arlon to justify a 20%+ markup.... which grows every year, as 3M regularly jacks their pricing.
  17. Please convert all fonts when creating your pdf's

late to the party, but its SUPER EASYto convert fonts in .pdf. I have even setup an actions-toolset in acrobat pro, so all i have to do is click a button and decide what I want new file to be named.
  18. Pin Letters - How You Tap Holes

potato tomato. we tap acrylic sometimes, other times we drill the hole just bigger than the threads and epoxy the studs-in, depending on if we are assembling in the shop or I have to box-up the letters and don't want the pins jabbing through the padding and scratching the other letters. for...
  19. How to pricing the rental equipment

if you're renting, and still trying to be competitive, then you can't upcharge your rental costs while also upcharging your labor costs. rental company is already upcharging you for the rental, so its no wonder the "other" company comes-in under your bid with their own equipment.
  20. Vehicle SQFT

provehicleoutlines or theBadWrap has versions, but I don't think they're accessible without purchase
