We have not done anything to ours. A combo of adjusting the pressure on the foot and not forcing the material through has minimized it here.
I did look into buying a foot used to keep leather from being scratched but the issue is so minimal I haven't gotten around to placing the order.

We have the LS here.
Works well for us, we do just a few dozen banners a month, mostly 13oz.
It seems to punch through just about anything we can get under the foot.
Comes with a nice printed user's guide/maintenance/repair manual & DVD.
We have not had any trouble with it in the year or so of...

Just tell them the last Dewalt you got at Home Depot came with a "Multicultural" set of instructions and that you were able to understand them & successfully use the tool.....

Flexi is not my favorite program on my computer but it does make me money while it is doing its best to make me angry.
No other fixes for the file that I know of.
If you run out of options I can help you get the file to me by ftp or a file sharing host. Could be a further waste of time but...
Have you tried opening a new blank document and then importing your original file into it?
Has worked once or twice for me.
If you can't get it to open and it is not to big I could try to open it here if you like.
I have 7.6 & 8.6 running here.

Can you bring it in under the awning and mount in the window area above the doors?
Some brackets or even a lightweight frame could be mounted to the aluminum extrusions around the glass.
A little engineering and some VBH tape would hold it securely in place without holes in the wall or frames...
Are you working inside or outside?
Standard 52" vertical panels?
Should go smooth solo if you are out of the wind.
No need for the tube.
Tape up the first one and fold back the top 4-6" inches of backer and nail it down
Pull the liner down a foot or two and work the material down using the roll...
