When we run our SP540 for print cut jobs we "blob" the background with the border color. Few pennies extra of ink and all your decals become usable.
Go to your local auto or industrial paint supplier and set up an account. Tough to beat their pricing and it will be consistent. Can set up a delivery schedule too.
We've direct printed to window film for a church. Did it to help out our window tint friend many years ago. Not sure on the brand, but it may have been Lumar. It was a textured film and printed great.
Here is what I know from working with a powder coater. ALL vinyls, lams etc... that I've used to produce stencils last mere minutes at 350 to 400 degrees fahrenheit. Edges start to curl within 3 minutes, but that is exactly what he wants to happen.

If the bulk of your business is labels get a dedicated label press that handles the whole process from start to finish. The fastest label printers use a laser to "die cut" whatever shape you can dream up. Everything is done for you, printing, laminating, cutting, stripping and rewinding.

If it's going on the block or valve covers regular high performance(cast) vinyl will be fine. An engine block won't hit 300 degrees unless you're right against the exhaust port. Block and heads are water cooled and should remain close to cooling system operating temp. Only issue would be right...
