We've been using 3M Electrocut with the plastic carrier/backer. Seems we get all these microscopic cut vinyl jobs and its the only material we can "manic weed".
Our suppliers are close enough we practice JIT for raw materials. We keep bare minimum inventories on everything which cuts down carrying costs. Of course this method will not work for every business model.
In our experience laminating matte with gloss does not look as good as gloss with gloss lam. Matte has a texture which the lam has a hard time getting into the nooks and crannies. Matte with matte lam turns out very nice though.
We run a cold RS laminator.
Try a search of this site. There are hundreds if millions of threads regarding laminators. Okay maybe only a million or so. Should actually be a "sticky".
In the end it boils down to how much you have to spend or don't want to spend. From what I've read the Chinese laminators work...
To eliminate a lot of gradient issues use the blend tool and let it make the gradient.(does a flawless job) This is especially useful for offset printing.
I have a generator by default from my racing operation. We take it out of the race trailer and it goes in a corner of the shop for the winter. Runs on diesel so I don't have issues with gas going bad. Only used it once in 20 years for a power outage.
A drunk dude drove through a few back...
We have 2 of these: http://www.spaceray.com/garage_infrared_heaters/index.php
Love 'em. Only maintenance is to blow the dust once a year before heating season. Original unit is nearly 20 years old and hasn't missed a beat. They are explosion proof also. Big plus since I never know what type...
We got our Cut Carriage Cable from extremeinkjet.com(omniscience). Was about 60 bucks including shipping. (SP540V)
Wife and I replaced ours in a couple hours. It literally took longer to remove the covers, plastic rivets, and guides than replace the dang cable.
What we learned:

Only time I had cross contamination was with third party inks. Tab wouldn't stick out to signal an empty cart. Then it would start siphon feeding from the full cart. (SP540V two colors per head)
I just have my 24" iMac. Was thinking about a Mac Pro(older model) driving a 4K TV. Problem is I can't find decent info if it would work. You'd think a 4K would be incredible up close.
This will throw a wrench in the works. We do work for another shop and printed a partial on Arlons XRP6000/3220 combo. Their installer is in love with it. He stopped by to show me pics and rave about the material.
IMHO their laminate rocks. Best I've run so far and it has that "wet" look.
