  1. royal sovereign laminator question

It may have blown a fuse. Or you may have accidentally hit an E-Stop button. Other options are the chain drive broke or one of the set screws on the gears slipped or broke off.
  2. Splicing banner together?

I bring big stuff to the local canvas shop and have it sewn. I figure if it holds up on yachts I shouldn't have any problems. BTW that is only for super short lead time banners. I have my sub do the huge by large banners on their 5 meter Scitex.
  3. how do you handle design fees

Forgot to add that a bunch of our clients want itemized invoices so we got into that mode. It works well for us and gets rid of tire kickers immediately. As professionals we always need to learn and elevate our craft. If you are "burying" design fees it does nothing but deepen the public's...
  4. how do you handle design fees

We do the first hour free. Not free after that. I'm older and finally realized time is a non-renewable resource. If I'm not getting paid I'm not working on your sign. Only exception is the yearly church picnic where we do all the signage. Sad to say most people don't think making attractive...

  7. adobe takes a beating

Thanks for the tip. I'm also very interested in iDraw for the Mac. $24.95 and the interface and tool bars look exactly like Illustrator.
  8. Digital printed vinyl and laminate material?

    Size = 54" x 50 yards. Cost = just under a Grand delivered Where = Fellers.
  9. adobe takes a beating

Adobe is in business for Adobe. Costs way more with the cloud and that's how they want it. I like Illustrator and Photoshop, but when the time comes to pay monthly I'm done. Just have to learn CorelDraw on PC again. No problem.
  10. Digital printed vinyl and laminate material?

I use the Oracal 3751RA/290G kits for the jobs that require it. The clients that used to insist I use this or that I took the time to educate. It's a win-win. They get a quality product and I get to avoid carrying costs on a material one or two clients might need now and then. My shop is...
  11. illustrator text turorial - gradient and highlights

    Nice tut. Thanks for posting.
  12. Versaworks locking up

The printer you are running has a great deal to do with it. We run an older SP540, and had all kinds of crashes and failures in VW The fix? We went back to the last viable SP540 update and shut off auto update. If you are running a "vintage" printer auto-update will wreak havoc with your system.

  14. Reg marks printing problem..shifted to the left of center, past pinch roller..HELP

Never saw that before. Full report once you figure it out. We had some difficulty with contour cutting recently. Found the reg marks to be 1 to 1.5mm wider on one side. Really buggered the cut. Ended up measuring the offset and "pre-skewing" the vinyl when reloading. Now today the dang...

  16. The Pixel Painter

Thank you for posting. Shows us that with drive when one door closes another opens.
  17. Need info on shop floors

Our Roland sits on commercial carpet. No issues. Before I'd worry about carpet make sure you have complete environmental control. Especially humidity. Not sure if the Mutoh manual is the same as Roalnds, but buried way in the back of the Roland manual is the optimum temp/humidity range. In...
  18. Well, I finally did it, and it's finally put together...

I think there may be overheating issues deadheading a shop vac. IIRC someone posted about them catching fire(?) If you want to do it like the big boys get yourself a regenerative/ring blower. They are made to run 24/7/365. Got a lot of experience with them at my former job. Cheap? Not...
  19. Polyurethane over eco solvent ink and vinyl?

Laminate then bring them to the local body shop to get them "buried" in clear.
  20. Walleye Wagon Wrap

First one looks great. Just have to PS or Ai the lake photo into more of a vector look to match the look of the fish.
