Slanted printing right before it gives this error is a damaged or dirty encoder strip and or bad encoder sensor. Clean the encoder strip with alcohol and if that doesn't fix the issue, I would replace the strip and be ready to replace the sensor if needed.

Could be a cap top issue and maybe even a dirty or failing wiper. I would fill the cap tops with cleaning solution and pull with a syringe from the waste lines. You could just have a partially clogged line which would cause the ink to no drain fast enough and the heads get cross contaminated.

Post some pictures of the nozzle check and some examples of what the print looks like. With those we can diagnose fairly easily. Do you see air bubbles in the ink lines above the dampers?

If it is the initial ink fill to fill an empty machine, you need all 8 carts to be able to do it. If you run out half way through it will fail. To run the machine you only need 4 carts but the fill up requires 8.
