I used the center hinge method more often than starting on one side like the OP. I always found that a calendered air egress would aid in making sure the print went down perfectly over a normal calendered film.
I got dinked w/ that and a trojan for surfing two weekends in a row. I had to do a system restore on the AV 2010 thing, none of the removal steps I tried worked at all.
Definitely invest in a weed burner. Aside from any areas near rubber seals and obviously the gas cap you could've had the bulk of that old print pulled in an hour.
Merritt is exactly right w/ his assessment of the scope of work and pricing at hand here. If you're not familiar w/ fleet graphics, retail sign shop markups and production methods simply don't apply - at least to make money.
I thought window juice had some alcohol in it. I'd follow Freds suggestions, he nailed it.
Regarding etched glass media - oracal has an air egress version that's quite nice.
