We use a keencut Javelin (we just bought a new one and I can’t remember the name) but it’s 3.2m, mounts to the table and cuts foam board etc like a breeze. We use it specifically for boards as I cutting posters is a bit fiddly.
Was pretty cheap too. Cuts nice and quick but can’t give an...
What is your current full process?
Why can’t you laminate roll to roll? I ask as before we got a takeup on our laminator we had some pretty weird and wonderful ways of lamming a full roll. At one point we had the laminator and the mimaki next to each other and used the mimaki’s takeup on the...
Assuming you’re getting that from xpres?
Papergraphics just brought out a range and we had a try. It’s pretty good stuff. Great for small detail too as the backing sheet is a little more tacky than we had before. would recommend giving that a try. If you want my rep’s email give me a PM...
How big is your mimaki? 64” printer with 54” plotter may get annoying. Especially running through onyx. You’re losing at least 1.5-2” either side with the summa marks including the usual margins etc.
For the actual cutter though, should be great!
I also believe it will be modular. Even on the software side. I.e. if you want Matt and gloss you pay extra. I might have gotten the wrong end of the stick though!
I was going to mention that lol. Only 4 heads so not sure on the print speeds. Think the inks are smaller too so the ml price might be a little higher.
Would definitely look at the Colorado 1650. Especially for wallpaper etc.
(we just upgraded from the 1640 to the 1650) but I ran a job last week for a customer that was a reprint of panel of a van that was damaged and the old panels still matched in colour. The initial job was about a year...
We have the regular model without the opos cam and it works fine. Really handy that it doesn’t need to be connected to the PC via USB just due to everything else needing connected to that one poor PC.
Mark detection is a little meh sometimes. When printing on the Colorado we tend to set up one...
I love our keencut for doing foam boards, corrugated plastic etc. Saves a bunch of time and is very easily mounted to the table. Which makes a huge difference too.
Never liked it for cutting posters though. Always feels a little awkward/slow. We have a couple smaller ones for doing stuff like...
Whatever you do, make sure it’s idiot proof. I seen a post on this forum once where a customer had just glued the decal to their vehicle and not peeled the liner off.
Would also suggest aftercare instructions. How to clean etc. Have had a customer use some weird industrial glass cleaner before...
Unprinted vinyl has a shelf life. Probably shorter than you think too. Usually only a couple hears or so. Will also depend on how it was stored.
Printed vinyl probably falls under the same theory, will depend pretty heavily on storage conditions.
What I can say is we printed a bunch of stuff...
We buy 1” wide tape. Leave a 1” white area around the perimeter of the banner then just tape and hem. Holds up great.
We’re not doing 1000’s but we get anywhere between 10 and 40 banners a week or so during the ‘banner’ season.
Colorado does a 8’ by 4’ banner in about 3 mins. Takes about 7...
