So we did some huge magnets (12’ by 4’) for a customer last week; they phoned up and said the magnets didn’t work. Didn’t work? They even asked if there was some sort of film they had to pull off before the magnets turned magnetic???
I went down, threw them at the van and they stuck. Worked...
A 30” printer will require the same maintenance as a 64” that’s the same model.
As long as you’re giving it a clean before you use it and a decent clean maybe once a week they should be fine.
I would just switch the lam to a cold/heat assist lam.
Colorado inks are cured as they come out so should be ready to go instantly. Also I can’t see it being ink density - who designs a laminate made to not adhere to printed materials?
I take it you are encapsulating and not just laminating...
We had it a year no problems then they changed the fibre optic cable that leads through the silver thingy that makes the noise and voila. Doof doof doof every time we’re printing now
Can confirm our 1640 does this. Very annoying. Was more prominent in the earlier models. Newer ones have a bar in the middle to reinforce the middle from sagging.
When I mentioned it to the tech he said you can change it out as much as you want and it’ll still make the noise.
Weirdest part...
Yeah not a calibration issue then. Simply a media issue.
I’ve never came across this specific problem so either worth reaching out to canon or trying some dodgy stuff. Maybe even something like putting something over the sensor to make it think there’s media
I’ll have a look later, maybe just a 1640 thing?
back to OP - I know the Colorado doesn’t like clear media as the little sensor in the drawer doesn’t recognise there’s media. Could that be the issue?
We had an issue with a specific media on the 1640 that wouldn’t calibrate.
The problem was the media bunching up between passes and we’d get media crashes.
Couple possible solutions, we’ve simply upped the vacuum before and that’s helped.
are you using the tension bar? If you’re using...
Agree. You’re gonna want to have white and white doesn’t fit that budget at all. There’s a few companies offering pre treatment and printer combos on the Epson DTG’s here (we looked at it) but for entry level you’re talking £11k and that’s 10-15 garments (with white) an hour. A few more per hour...
I think they meant separate - if they’re looking at HP I don’t believe they have any print and cut machines?
as far as choosing printers goes, it all boils down to preference so the best advice is buy as local as possible and make sure they can fix/repair your machines effectively and quickly...
What he said. The sunlight is right, the shop lights are wrong.
Are you profiling your own media’s etc also? Calibrated screens?
Would suggest printing a few swatches and have a look at them outside. After all, the wrap will be driving about outdoors 99% of the time anyway.
Best way to prevent it is to buy better media. Better vinyl + cast lam.
With that said, you should probably only be giving a life span of about 5 years on printed goods anyway. Max 3 years if it’s a wrap.
Worth noting you are comparing what could be a 10 year old Arizona to one of the newest HP models. Maybe look at a newer version?
In all honestly, we got quoted for an R1000 and you do not get a lot of bang for your buck. A lot of better, cheaper printers around. Even if you dont go canon.
Glad onyx has a warning before you try print any job with cutter marks if it doesn’t see any cut data. Other designer loves to call it a CutContour and not save it as a spot colour..
You guys should meet the “designer” I had to work with today. 12 2’ by 3’ posters. Simple artwork. Really not much going on.
1.2GB... and still pixelated. If I wasnt so mad I’d be impressed!
Also directly from canon. Usually about a year expiry date on them and next day delivery.
A few months ago they sent in a 2L cyan with a month on it, so we phoned and complained and they sent out two new ones FOC.
Flattening transparencies usually works in the preflight panel of acrobat.
Biggest problem is you never know if a file is gonna do it until you’re already printing. Used to get this all the time in rasterlink but has never happened in onyx.
