  1. designing your own font for Windows

PFB is the default format displayed in the import dialogue box of F.F.- I was switching to .eps, but will give the PFB route a shot. Thanks!
  2. designing your own font for Windows

Welp, I (our I.T. guy) got Font Forge installed, and it seems very straightforward since I'm making the glyphs in Illustrator and just using F.F. to import the graphic and export it as a font. However, once I click the import button in F.F., it crashes. I started using CS4 .eps, and the crash...
  3. Fine arts vs. Graphic arts majors

I think it comes down to someone's ability to identify and solve challenges. Then, if they are given freedom; LOTS of freedom, creativity will follow. I feel like there are two distinct veins of creativity in my life- at work I need to use creativity to solve all sorts of problems; when I get...
  4. designing your own font for Windows

Thanks RoundMan! I have a copy of corel somewhere around here. I will try that out first. That will make the process easier- no cygwin. I appreciate the fact that you and the others took the time to help me. Mike
  5. designing your own font for Windows

Thanks for the advice! At the moment, I only need to make one font so I think Font Forge, but there is a possibility of more in the future. Fontlab Studio is $650, maybe I can get the bossman to buy it. Obviously, I'm new to the software; can you tell me what makes it better than the rest...
  6. designing your own font for Windows

Anyone doing this? Is Font Forge the best font editor in general (besides being free?) Anyone have any tips or short cuts?
  7. Hours on JV33

thanks for the directions! does it have to be that size of paper? It's been several years since I did it myself, but I thought I did it on 30" vinyl.
  8. any winplot gurus out there?

anybody know how to put Opos reg marks on a layout generated in Illustrator without using the .ai plug-in? my real goal is to make the marks as large as possible. The manual says they must be at least 1/8" SQ and no greater than 3/8" SQ, however, when I use the plug-in they are generated...
  9. what I learned this morning by trial and error

gabagoo + Frank- both of you have mentioned your technique of lifting the sensor to stop its search when it has trouble. Can you elaborate and maybe post a picture? I don't have the guts to try it on my boss' plotters! Are you doing that while it's moving? Thanks for the tips!
  10. Hours on JV33

go into maintenance mode and you can have the printer output it's own history. I don't have the exact steps in mind, but a Mimaki tech should be able to guide you; it can be done.
  11. Fish Images

M.H.S. Licensing Wild Wings Captain Joe Suroviec- AUTHENTIC ORIGINALS INC. Guy Harvey, Inc. Tony Ludovico The top two on the list have all types of wildlife art paintings done by lots of different artists. Authentic Originals and Guy Harvey have primarily fish, but also have bird and mammal...
  12. Enough is enough already............................

Thanks for posting the pictures. I haven't had this problem, but we print directly to the mag- no laminating aside from protective layer of liquid lam. Could the problem be originating from the printed material that's getting mounted to the magnet? Does the curled portion of the final product...
  13. what I learned this morning by trial and error

We have the same issues with detecting marks or barcodes. What you did really took a lot of environmental variables out of the process and you made it easier for the machine to do it's job. Reflectivity, glare and the substrate's face among other things, affect what the sensor is viewing...

  16. Enough is enough already............................

Can you please explain the issue in more detail? Is the film delaminating from the magnetic base, or is the entire finished product curling off of the vehicle? We run several palettes a month of Magnum's product, and haven't had anyone complain, but I would like to be ready for it. I think the...
  17. First major laminating run

If you set everything up properly you should have no problem running entire rolls of material. Make sure your materials are wound tightly and concentrically; no telescoping. Make sure your materials are centered on the laminator (and each other.) Make sure that the tension on your laminate...
  18. advice on used FC2250

I'm looking at a demo model Graphtec FC2250 flatbed plotter from 2011 that has been to trade shows and in demo rooms. It seems to run well, but being that its from 2011, it has no warranty...what do you think it's worth? What could go wrong? Thanks for your insight!
  19. rolling decals

Turning up the post-heat on your printer can help, but an IR drier in conjunction with a fan will be better. Manufacturers of vinyl say "wait 24 hrs," but we cant really do that. Heat and air circulation is the best way to expedite out-gassing. a small unprinted border, as stated above, will...
  20. JV3 - Cyan complete band missing in the middle, cant get back to full test draw?

have you tried soaking it for a while? just re-read, and see that you did. maybe soak a little longer? Perhaps looking a little closer at the head itself and see if you can remove any buildup with some wash fluid and a foam swab? I haven't worked with a JV3 since the 33 came out- I know you're...
