  3. What's your preferance and why?

Johhnysigns, Are paintwraps the type of job where you are installing colored vinyl instead of a costly paint job? Are there issues with different inks if you are going to print on a white vinyl? I use Mimaki JV33 ss21 OEM ink. Thanks,
  4. What's your preferance and why?

Thanks for the advice and link! I hadn't thought about care for the graphic post installation. I guess it would be in my best interest to educate the consumer. Thank you.
  5. summa graphtec or roland or other?

Used all 3 and prefer the Summa, although we still have several Graphtec flatbeds (they are used for one specific task.) If price were of no consequence I would switch all of our flatbeds to Summa. Summa equipment is extremely reliable and Summa Tech support is the best. Period. You will need...
  6. What's your preferance and why?

I've never done a wrap...of anything. Now I am getting interested in it and thought the members at Signs101 would be the greatest unbiased resource available to get factual, experience based advice. From the research I've done so far it seems that the most respected manufacturers are 3M, Arlon...
  7. close cover

There are similar switches on our Mimaki. One of them was broken, and we could not operate the printer. Instead of waiting on a new switch, we disconnected the switch and closed the circuit with a wire nut. That worked for me, but I do not know how your machine would react. Be careful, and...

Try converting your spot to CMYK or RGB (whatever you're working in) and flatten trans
  9. Laminators in the shop area

Laminator is kept in a separate area that is cleaned regularly by staff, and nightly by a large air filter. The filter is on auto shut off so the environment can settle down for a couple hrs before day shift. Humidity is also kept higher in that area to weigh down the dust. Dry lint-free cloth...
  10. cast versus calendared for wraps- New technology?

I like the leverage that a long-term warranty offers, however I would also want to sell replacements sooner than 5yrs of course. I wonder if anyone really keeps a wrap on for that long anyway; things change, as you point out.
  11. cast versus calendared for wraps- New technology?

Right now, everything will be solvent printed on a JV33. I'm aiming to make it the least complex for our printer & laminator operators as well as the applicators. The less variation I have in material stock the better. At the same time, I want to be able to warranty for 3-5yrs, unless its...
  12. cast versus calendared for wraps- New technology?

Also, does anyone use liquid laminate for vehicle graphics? I would guess that one disadvantage would be the possible requirement of application tape since the liquid laminate would be very thin. In regard to film versus liquid, is one inherently more abrasion / chemical resistant? Is one...
  13. cast versus calendared for wraps- New technology?

I've always thought that cast was a must for vehicle graphics until I read this: "Media Advancements Cast films are often categorized as high performance, providing advanced durability and conformability. Calendared films are typically used for intermediate, short-term, and economy projects...
  14. Liquid lam for vehicle graphics. Need fast throughput

Looking for liquid laminate the has UV absorbers in it as well as having a quick cure time. Ive read a little about the LED curing systems, but understand that there are actually UV curable coatings that somehow have UV absorbers in them. Anyone know how this works? Thanks for the advice!
  15. Laminator Built for Speed

Saw this one at a show last year. Not sure how wide they go, but it's very easy to operate, and goes as fast as your arm can crank it! :Big Laugh http://www.ezytaper.net/ it does mount to board, but I'm not sure how thick. Check out their video. Good Luck!
  16. HP 8000 banding issues printing ARLON DPF 8000

Adhesive ooze is very heavy with that product. Flexcon has an "RTS" series that has the same application capabilities as the 8000, but none of the problems.
  17. Mimaki jv33 banding like someone is taking a miniature rake through it

canned profiles usually leave a lot to be desired, but they are a good starting point. Ask your materials/software/rip vendor/manufacturer to supply a profile or give advice in regard to temps and ink limits Good luck!
  18. Vinyl at each turn of a curve is leaving a pivot mark

I agree with the suggestions above. Most graphtecs will plot their settings out on paper using the pen tool for you to file away for future reference. The box that your blade came in should list the blade type and offset value.
  19. Displaying Digital Printed Wall Graphic Online

also, it's impossible to make colors appear exactly the same on all monitors. upto you, but you may want to include a watermark as well
  20. designing your own font for Windows

tried control C + Control V from CS4 to F.F. but the vector graphic didn't transfer. I also tried pasting from "Edit", Paste" but the paste option was grayed out. Tried clicking and dragging from ai to FF, but couldn't get that in there that way either. WhooooHooooo! SVG import worked...
