  1. out gassing solvent prints

with a typical box fan you can fit 3-4 loosely unwound rolls. it's hard to say how long it really takes unless you monitor the level of VOCs coming out at the beginning and then periodically check and wait for it level off. each print can have different amounts of solvents based on design and...
  2. Cutting lines on a traction fed plotter

yours doesn't have a adjustable pinch rollers? there should be an up and down position for gripping tight or loose. You lift a lever behind each wheel and click it into position. Watch the springs move.
  3. out gassing solvent prints

picture a "suck box" is just a box sitting on a fan that about 6" off the floor. The fan blows toward the floor, pulling the heavier than air solvent down and out. stand a roll vertically inside the box and unwind it so air can be pulled through all wraps.
  4. out gassing solvent prints

If I can figure it out or find someone who already has I will surely share! I forgot to mention using an IR dryer while the vinyl is headed to the take up helps as well. Searching old posts here I found this insightful link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-sV8qKeQrA&sns=em
  5. out gassing solvent prints

Thanks for the tips!! I definitely don't want to cut corners and create rejects, but time is money (even if it's not mine, but my boss' :-) I also have fans raised off the floor with a box / curtain on top. I can fit about 3 rolls in there; un-wound with gaps for the fan to pull fresh air...
  6. INferno SignLab, BadWraps. Photoshop ???

I think if you choose Adobe you will have to subscribe instead of buying a hard copy at this point. There is a thread in the Adobe forum on Signs101 that gives the pros and cons as well as other threads that discuss differences between Corel and Adobe.
  7. Cutting lines on a traction fed plotter

what about panels? I'm using some S-75 plotters to cut a ton of 100" stripes across 30" media. Trying to cut the entire length and then returning the origin to cut the next stripe was difficult. When paneling was turned on the first 2' of stripes cut all across the y axis and then the media...
  8. out gassing solvent prints

Is there any way to gauge where a print is at in regard to out gassing all of the solvent in a print? Some kind of digital meter? 24+ hrs is recommended, but I imagine that a light yellow print would have less solvent to deal with than a print with lots of heavy dark inks. Are there any tricks...
  9. Recent HDU projects

Those pieces look awesome! Does anyone on here do this kind of work near Central Florida?
  10. Cutting lines on a traction fed plotter

you may want to adjust pinch wheel pressure, up+down acceleration so the media feeds a little slower. Summa tech support can remote on to your system and help you with settings if you provide details about your media
  11. Will Wasatch 6.2 run on Windows 8 / 8.1

That type of "support" is exactly why we are "upgrading" to ONYX! We run 5 seats of Wasatch so it's hard to transition, but I had the opportunity to do a new printer evaluation using ONYX and was very impressed. We did the printer demo on a laptop and the RIP time was still much faster than...
  12. Can Onyx 10.2 and Wasatch 7.0 co-exist?

pretty sure you can have them both installed simultaneously, but you may have communication errors if they are connected to the same devices with both programs open at the same time.
  13. Wasatch Print, lamination then cut problems

The point MrSalumi brings up drives me nuts!!! It really seems that Wasatch is engineered more for printing good color, with little emphasis on cutting. They do support several different cutting features, but I've experienced problems and inconsistency in them. To top it off, Wasatch is truly...

  15. Achieve Rich Black through RIP

Some RIPs allow you to change the rendering intent to "BCP;" Black Point Compensation. My understanding of this feature is that it draws more ink from the black cartridge for black areas of your print. Another technique involves CMYK values. 100%K is not always the best option. 16. Acrylic issues - advise please!

One cleaning chem we use is Brillianize Here's a link to a page from a major mfg Plaskolite, detailing chemical reactions between acrylic and different agents: http://www.plaskolite.com/Fabrication/Acrylic/Chemical-Resistance We've use Rapid Tack as well as laminators and roll mounters to apply...
  17. Acrylic issues - advise please!

There are special chems for cleaning / prepping acrylic. Consult your vendor; they probably sell it or can source it for you. We process so much acrylic that our prep chems come in bulk and are distributed in generic bottles throughout our plant- I will see if I can find the name of the product...
  18. Wasatch Print, lamination then cut problems

If you get the first mark to read but none of the others, you may have your media loaded askew. If it will not read the first mark then it may be a reflectivity issue caused by your laminate. Try a piece of matte scotch tape over the mark to reduce glare. Consult your printer tech and laminate...

  20. what do you think of this new type of laminator?

I've seen them in action at a vendor's open house. They are very nice, but seem to be an expensive luxury.
