  1. Do you really wait a day to laminate?

I try to let it sit overnight, sometimes I can't and honestly haven't seen any ill effects. I do belive that it must have a bad effect on either the life or the adhesion of the product. I also like to make some of my customers wait the magic day for the theater of the thing. It must be good if...
  2. There must be some serious markup in sign materials!

Don't forget the 120 days to pay for some of the municipalities.
  3. Would you sue?

Put yourself in his shoes. What would you do if you had a lawyers letter saying cease or be sued? You can even step to the brink and send the lawsuit paperwork. take it to the edge and see who blinks. He has no idea that you aren't going to follow through. All he can see is his lawyer bills to...
  4. Saving Versworks files HELP

its the path, I am very careful to have the server on all the computers as "H" drive with the same naming conventions. that way all the links work. Remember the versaworks file is not the date, just the settings and the path to the elements. This is the same for all programs that call on other...
  5. Deposit Received, Customer Cancelling.

Also time to look at putting some boilerplate contracts in your quotes. There is plenty around that applies to graphics and signs on the googleverse.
  6. Suggestions for starting a Roland print shop with Caldera rather than VersaWorks.

You have budgeted 250K for setting up this shop? Why are you using up your capital when the cost of credit is so cheap?
  7. Another new sign

Your 3 yr old has good taste.
  8. Face-palm / No taste

see we almost had a happy ending to this morality tale. The sign shop stood its ground to a cheapskate and saw the crap they ended up with, the cheapskate got a deal and stuck it on the boat himself. Then you had to tell him... "he got what he paid for". This can't end well. Honestly I'm going...
  9. Looking to hire my 1st employee .. - Not sure where to start-

You also make no money from your first employee, Unless you are really lucky...(or you steal from another shop), you will have to train and eat the "learning" expenses. Its only when you have a couple of motivated employees that you begin to make money and free yourself up to chase new work to...
  10. "One of those" Customers.

When they come to cut the grass you should shout instructions.
  11. Oh no!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You want to catch flies? Just start applying vinyl to a vehicle outside. All the flies for miles will come visit and land on the sticky. You have to press real hard to smooth out that bump.
  12. Happy Birthday Queen Victoria!

Today is Queen Victoria's Birthday. A day when all of you who didn't replace your Monarch with a Bush or an Obama get a day off (Canadians... unless you are self-employed or live in Quebec). I myself have finished for the day and am going to sit on my deck with a beer. Please do not feel...
  13. sticker production question.

Huh? Laminating is an option for stickers (or decals or whatever you want to call them). Most of the time I do not laminate, however for longer life and premium jobs I will laminate. I can also bleed off the edge of a cut without laminating, but as above, either firnd a thicker vinyl or let it...
  14. What do you see?

and while we are at it, why are there still no decent pictures of a UFO? I mean they are all even now still just shakey lights or cigar shaped blobs in the sky. In the age when everyone has multi megapixel smart phones we still get crappy pictures... or maybe the cameras are all made by aliens!!
  15. [REQ] applying big sand decal to window from two pieces

you can apply the two sides with a slight overlap, then with a straight edge and a very sharp knife (and a light touch so you don't scratch the glass) cut a line down through both overlapping layers. Strip out the excess and you have a dead fit. Alas in later months the vinyl will shrink, but at...
  16. Adobe CC not CS

mixed reactions I have been an adobe user for at least the last 20 years, I now have cloud licences, but I have very mixed feelings about how this will effect the industry and future development of the suite; When I was first using adobe, I bought individual programs in boxes (illustrator and...
  17. Digital prints not lasting after 1 year

:thumb: I have trailers and van sides that have been driving round with Ij35 and 210 lam for over 5 years. I use it because it's a great pairing and lasts longer than any of the other "economy" solutions. If I need better quality I'll just up to 3M 180 vinyl. What brand of vinyl and lam are you...
  18. need some help on removing double sided tape from laminated vinyl

yes you have to cut the foam first. I had tried to ease the whole thing off by wedging a squeegee and it pulled and stretched the adhesive underneath. One you chut the foam it's easy...ish.
  19. Is this possibele in Versaworks ?

you could also redo the cutline and delete the parts you don't want. provided all the size settings are the same as the original print. or as above, but set the initial blade pressure to zero until you get to the place you want. it will only lightly kiss the vinyl.
  20. Inbetween a rock and a hard place

to use the car analogy, it's always cheaper to keep an old car on the road than make payments on a new one.
