  1. Wordpress vs Joomla?

Wordpress is fantastically easy to use but feature limited compared to Joomla. Both will be much easier if you understand some basic HTML and CSS. If you want to run a store then Joomla has the best options for store integration, but wordpress is getting there slowly. There's also Drupal and...
  2. GS6000 ink fade

If ink longevity is an issue for your clients then I doubt that the Epson is for you. They tell you straight up that the longevity is less than eco-solvent. It's a good little printer, but a mild or eco-solvent printer would give you better longevity.
  3. Semi-Transparant Vinyl

I'm having a heck of a time finding a vinyl that's a tinted transparent. I need something like the Avery True Shadow, where it's mostly transparent with a slight tint to it. Preferably a gray/black or white/ghosted. It will be applied over a variety of different surfaces including wood grains...
  4. Who is the Largest Sign Company in the US, non-Franchise?

Lamar 1 billion in revenue and 3000 employees. Lamar might outsource a bunch of work but they also have their own shop set-up in Baton Rouge.
  5. 2 days of tech, printings and the such... still have problems

It seems to me that the number of passes corresponds to the 1" width of the print head. If a lower number of passes seems to resolve the issue then I'd think it might possibly be a memory issue where some RAM is dropping the instructions for the last pass. I have no idea where the printer...
  6. JV33 printing out of register

OK I'm stumped on this one. The cyan channel is printing offset from the rest of the colors on my JV33 as indicated in this photo. I've tried turning high speed off, different resolutions, bi-directional and uni-directional, cleaning the encoder strip, different number of passes as well as...
  7. Artistic printing question

Straight prints on paper are a dime a dozen. The artwork is very nice and deserves a more unique approach to reproduction. I'd try a variety of different materials to create something more than a print on paper. It will be far more likely to sell than as just a standard giclee print. Try...
  8. Color Confused??

RGB is the way to go, but your clients will need to be a little color savvy themselves. Expect to be sending soft-proofs and converting their files to your output profiles so they can see how much the image will change when converted to your printers gamut. There is still a sizable shift when...
  9. why when you use 54" does the printer say 52.5"

You can set them into negative numbers. Mine are -.38" or - 3/8ths of an inch on both sides. This leaves me with about 1/8" to 1/4" margin on the media.
  10. memjet wide format - extreme speed

Prints too fast for a latex or solvent ink (heaters would have to be 12' long ovens). I'm not sure the head itself could handle the particulate size of a UV ink either. It's coming for sure, but it's not here yet. I like that heads are user replaceable.
  11. Awful color from Illustrator

You need to have the same color settings in both applications and make sure you're telling the software to recognize embedded profiles. If you open bridge, you can change the color setting for all your creative suite applications in one place.
  12. What a slap in the face....

Never produce work based on the promise of future work.
  13. How many patches do you scan?

It usually depends on what media I'm profiling and the client base that uses it most often. Banner vinyl won't get as many as my fine art canvas setting. I might read 4-5 times the amount of targets for the highest quality settings as the I do for a low quality setting. Likewise, I'll read less...
  14. Fine Art Paper

Try German Etching by Hahnemuhle, although it's pretty smooth and similar to a lot of others. Schoellershammer Velvet has a smoother surface while still being a 100% rag cotton stock. My favorite and by far the most popular that we've sold in the past was Hahnemuhle Torchon. It has a pretty...
  15. jv5 320 print heads problem (DX5)

For all the cleanings you've mentioned you have not listed a nozzle wash. If you haven't done one yet it's more likely to solve the issue than any of the other cleaning methods you've listed here.
  16. Jv-33 print problem

I don't run a dual cmyk set-up in my 33 so I'm not sure how the carts are loaded and where on the head the yellow prints from. If the yellow ink is not printing from one end of the head only (CC/MM/KK/YY) then it's unlikely it's a capping station issue. If there's air in the lines it may have...
  17. Mimaki jv3 130 spII runs out of ink but no low warning!!!

My JV33 has done the same thing occasionally. Once it jumped from 3 to empty, but 99% of the time I get the warning. I find the low ink warning a pain. If I have 10 prints scheduled and it warns, then I have to return to the machine after every print and put it back into remote mode. I'd...
  18. New camera. No more focussing or exposure?

Kind of short on details about resolution and exposure times. Neat technology though.
  19. I need to rant!

I just quote these kinds of people ridiculous prices to make them go away. Nothing drives them away faster than a high price. If they still give me the job at that point I'm charging enough to put up with them. So I don't mind having to deal with the odd a-hole if they're paying my a-hole rates.
  20. Color setting - illustrator

Another thing to check is that all your placed files have the correct input profile attached and that illustrator is set-up to recognize them.
