  1. JV33 Odd Banding/Striping

I run 720x720 16 pass bi-directional all the time and never have banding issues. It's been printing great for three years and I haven't so much as changed a wiper blade. Although I do create all my own profiles in house. Did the tech that installed the printer prime the dampers when he...
  2. Mimaki Latex printer

I've also heard that Mimaki is dropping Epson as a head supplier.
  3. Not enough details in shadows after profile.

Sounds like you're overinking the sheet. When I set ink limits with my Wasatch I can usually run between 280 and 330% total ink when the individual channels are set correctly. Also check that your black point compensation is being used and hasn't been turned off.
  4. 2 identical flatbed presses - same media profiles?

You need to create what's called a device link profile. It reads the basic profile from both machines and creates a new one that matches the colour between the the machines. Essentially uses takes the machine with the smaller gamut as a base and throttles down the profile of the larger gamut...
  5. "If you change X% of the design it's fair game"

I get minor hockey teams that steal big teams logos all the time. I don't worry about it. The only thing copyrights seem to protect is the lawyers. If it were for resale I wouldn't touch it, but nobody's going after the teams for using the name and logo, so who cares if they have a nice...
  6. How's business?

I lost my biggest client to a buyout before christmas, but my second biggest client is undergoing a massive expansion and has been keeping me too busy to worry about it. The little stuff hasn't been coming in like it was before but I turned off my advertising program, so it's not a surprise...
  7. 1631 516 encoder error

Usually it means to clean or replace your encoder strip. You probably have overspray on the clear strip that the head uses to determine the it's position across the print platen. Don't use any harsh solvents or you'll wipe the strip clean.
  8. Mimaki JV33 Auto sleep

As long as the green button on the front isn't turned on, the machine shouldn't turn on after a power failure. It may run through a cleaning cycle, but it shouldn't stay on.
  9. Looking for JV33-160

Used or new. Preferably out of Canada, but willing to look elsewhere. My local dealer is quoting me $5500 over MSRP, so it looks like my local dealer won't be getting my business. What have you guys picked up a new one for recently? I can't imagine they're trying to get top dollar since...
  10. I NEED A MAROON or BURGUNDY

Maroons/dark reds don't print well at lower resolutions. Increase the resolutions and number of passes and your color gamut in the reds will be much much better.
  11. new to Mimaki-Wasatch

The knock against the JV5 is that it's too fast for it's own good. 720x1440 16 pass is probably overkill for what you're doing with it. I'd knock the resolution down to 720x720 16 pass or 720x1080 12 pass and you should get comparable color depth with more speed. MY JV33 won't go above 50˚ for...
  12. dx5 flatbeds (solvent and uv)

Have you checked the ink adhesion from the DX5 based flatbeds? Nobody else is using the DX5 heads with UV inks, so I have to assume it's some kind of new ink that can work in those heads. With how important adhesion is with the UV printers, buying a printer you can work on would be futile if...
  13. 8 pass is purple!

Your black head is hooped. There's so many deflections it's not laying the dots down where they need to be and the underlying color is showing through. Since you're just printing black, turn off the color management and send the file through at 30C30M30Y100K and see what happens. You profile...
  14. could some kind soul please convert a Corel file to .eps for me.

Simple vector, small file, my corel installation is buggered since I upgraded parallels and this would help me out a ton. A PDF or .ai file would work just as well too. You'll need to change the extension to .cdr as I couldn't upload the file with that extension.
  15. Am I being stupid???

Moving a printer and operating them in an uncontrolled environment is asking for all sorts of issues. Never mind the temperature and humidity requirements for basic operation. Add in the potential for dust and possibly tweaking the chassis during a move and you could have a very expensive high...
  16. Looking for somebody familiar with profiling using Onyx

I did put a piece of white card stock behind the fabric. I wish I had access to their RIP to show you guys the lin curves, because they looked fine. No really weird spikes in them, but not the smoothest either. Then I clicked the analyse button and it reported back that there were spikes. Like...
  17. Looking for somebody familiar with profiling using Onyx

It's a JV33 clone from Alpha. Same DX5 head, but with a slightly different chassis. Panel inputs are all identical. Onyx thinks it's a JV33-160 and uses the Mimaki driver. Inks are unknown, bulk, dye sublimation. Definitely from Asia somewhere. No idea where. It's what they're using and I'm not...
  18. Looking for somebody familiar with profiling using Onyx

I'm not sure how the package from Onyx is sold. The RIP I'm working with seems to skip the create icc profile step and it's greyed out so I'm assuming it's an option they didn't pay for, but is available. I'm setting the ink limits and then using my software to create the profile outside of...
  19. Looking for somebody familiar with profiling using Onyx

Yeah the problem seems to be getting decent results from the spectro (DTP41UV). It warns that there's irregular spikes in the linearization, but you look at the curves and read the numbers from the patches and it all graduates the way you'd expect. Then when the linearization is finished, I...
