  1. Cheap decals

At the prices you were charging I would have bought them the cutter myself to get rid of them as a client. Shoot, I would have thrown in a free roll of vinyl too. Just. Go. Away. I have real money to make.
  2. ATV and MX graphic kit material?

I've been using the convex base vinyl with a 12 mil lam I get from remington laminations in Texas. It conforms nicely and after a couple of years is finally starting to get scuffed. Apparently it's the same stuff FactoryFX uses.
  3. Half a million Mac computers 'infected with malware'

I'm clean. I've been a mac user since 1986 and never once had a virus, trojan, worm or any other infection. I've also never run virus software on any of my macs. It sounds like the hole in Java has been plugged. It does concern me though, that they found a way to load software without the...
  4. Mimaki Latex

What did they really have to change other than the heads on the machine? It's the same bloody chassis as the JV34, which was a two head model of the JV33 with some new heads. So they added an agitator to the ink delivery and are running the sepiax inks in it, BFD! Mark my words, they will...
  5. Need some inspiration: Electric Company Designs

This is a logo I did for a local electrical contractor. They wanted to show they were somewhat "green". Thus the leaf inside the light bulb.
  6. Mimaki JV5 miss-registration

The encoder strip never touches anything. Unless you've damaged it or it's getting foggy or ink covered there's no reason to replace it. You may have some sort of humidity related issue that's affecting the electronics and causing a misfire. What kind of humidity levels are you getting in the...
  7. Mimaki JV5 miss-registration

Sounds like your encoder strip is either dirty or getting fogged up. If it's getting fogged you can dry and run a de-humidifier in the room. If it's just dirty clean it. Don't use any harsh solvents though or you'll need a new one.
  8. Major Color Problems

Were your input profiles the same? If you took an RGB file with no embedded profile and opened it up with two different color settings (say one time your settings were AdobeRGB, and the next time you open the file the color settings had been changed to sRGB) the files will be different color.
  9. Epson 9700

If you're reusing the cartridges the o-ring or the rubber seal at the cartridge might be gone and you might be sucking air into the ink line right from the cartridge. Air can only get in from either end of the delivery system. If it's not the cartridge seal, it will be the damper seal.
  10. How do you set up to print 52' trailer wrap

If it's in Illustrator, set up your artboards to be your panels and whatever you spec for bleed will be automatically applied to all the panels. Butt the artboards up side by side and drop your artwork on top. Then you can save the panels out individually as a PDF of EPS by clicking the use...
  11. going away next week, ink low...what do you recommend

That would seem to indicate you were right on the cusp of running out. Why take the chance ruining a print head over a few ml of ink? What do you stand to lose with either decision? $20 for losing out on the tail end of a cartridge or a $$$$ print head? Sounds like you're stepping over a...
  12. going away next week, ink low...what do you recommend

Do what I do, buy the new carts and stick them in. When you get back throw the old carts back in until they're done. There's no waste and you don't risk your print head drying out. You're going to need the damn ink anyway. Just buy it.
  13. New Epson printer

What is this TFP head they're using? Is it the same as a standard DX5/DX6 or something different?
  14. Mimaki Latex printer

I got word this morning that the replacement cost of the "permanent" Mimaki print heads in this new machine are $4500 per head to replace (in Canada anyhow). Mimaki's guarantee is one year on them.
  15. Dc4

I bought mine from ND Graphics (cutter, not a DC4).
  16. Dinosaurs?

I have both and lately have been doing more cut vinyl than print work. They're hardly a dinosaur. They're just another tool in the box.
  17. mimaki and printing red

A good red likes lots of ink, so increase the resolution, number of passes or both. You need a profile for that setting though (resolution and number of passes). Just using the same profile and changing the printer settings will not produce the same results. You can see some examples of how...
  18. Rotary trimmer

I picked up a 100" roland cutter for a steal at an auction one weekend. It cut the time I spent slicing panels in half. If I had of known what a time saver they were I would have paid full pop years ago. It's especially good with sintra like substrates since they'll usually require a number of...
  19. Need a BIG scanner

This is your best option if someone in your area has one of these (cruse scanner). Otherwise you can look for a place that specializes in doing fine art-reproduction that may have a similar method using a scanning digital camera back for a large format camera (4x5). Expect to pay about $100 for...
  20. Hard Drive Prices - Suggestions?

I've found tiger direct to have decent prices on drives since the factory flooded. Frankly the only thing I'll be using traditional hard drives for is long term backup. SSD drives are so much faster with no moving parts to fail that it only makes sense to use them for the heavy lifting and back...
