  1. Looking for somebody familiar with profiling using Onyx

I have a client I'm trying to help out with some profiling and their RIP (Onyxv10) is doing some very strange stuff during the ink limiting stage. Half the problem is we're trying to profile a fabric using dye sublimation inks, which are a completely different animal than solvent on vinyl, or...
  2. Lamination Machine Static

I just wipe the surface to be laminated with a swiffer brush and haven't had an issue with static since.
  3. Do you do it before or after lamming?

This is the same thing I've done in the past for giclee work. It works very well and I'd set different profile profiles for gloss, semi-gloss and un-laminated. It really did make a big difference when you're color correcting prints that are sitting right next to the original. Pigmented inks were...
  4. Colorburst shutting down. File too big. Now what?

Whenever I get issue with sizes being too big in my rip (wasatch) it's usually because I haven't cleaned up the old files and the hard disc is getting too full. I've sent files well over a gig in size to a colorburst rip before. They can take it.
  5. Can't seem to ID this one myself.....

    bang on the money...... thanks!
  6. Can't seem to ID this one myself.....

Anybody have an idea? Sorry for the poor quality photo.
  7. feeling sick all the time!!!

Take the MSDS sheets for the Mimaki UV curable inks into hi9s office and have little chat. I took the time to read the sheets for a couple of colors and they're anything but safe for use in an unventilated area. Your boss probably thinks that UV inks are as safe as Eco-sols over even safer...
  8. ES3 Ink & Wasatch

Write to wasatch and tell them to get off their butts and add the colormunki to their supported devices list. Somebody else's custom profiles are useless to you without the machine being linearized.
  9. 11x17 scanner converted flat surface

For most consumer level giclees we do these days I just shoot them with a hand held 10MP digital camera and they turn out fine. I'll just set them up outside on an overcast day and the lighting is as good as you could ask for with enough resolution for all but the largest reproductions. Now...
  10. A question about RTA cut vinyl production volumes

That's exactly what I'm trying to do, but looking to confirm my numbers with another shop that produces these things in volume. Subbing it out is out of the question. I need to ship to 2,000 locations and the logistics of having it done by an outside supplier and then organizing the shipments...
  11. A question about RTA cut vinyl production volumes

I have a client we're putting a proposal together for that has a large number of locations and possibly some serious production volume of cut vinyl RTA decals. We could be looking at needing to produce between 2,000 and 28,000 cut vinyl decals a month (possibly more). This is beyond anything...
  12. Font Check Please

Thanks guys, Frutiger Black was close enough in the end.
  13. Name That Font

Miller Display Roman if you edit the top of the E to match widths with the bottom and play with the width a little.
  14. Font Check Please

What the font came back with something close but not close enough.
  15. Epson GS6000 & Mimaki JV33 comparison

Don't feel too bad. They were the first large format printers I worked with and we had to run custom inksets for the giclee market and did many of the repairs and maintenance ourselves. Looking back I'm sure much of the cost of service was due to our own learning curve and mistakes. There was...
  16. Pantone 872...

We always used to use either 100Y 20M 35K or 100Y 35M 20K to get a decent "fake" gold hue when I was working in the offset world. I can't remember which way the M and K values split, but I'm pretty sure on the numbers. Using the LAB specs for most metallics tends to produce a casted version...
  17. Setting Up Epson 7600 in Wasatch

It's a profile issue. Also if you have the Mimaki edition of wasatch you won't have the drivers for the epson, or they will be disabled by you mimaki edition dongle. With the right driver and profiles it should work fine. Time to bend over and call wasatch. Have some lube ready.
  18. Epson GS6000 & Mimaki JV33 comparison

As someone who owned many epsons before I bought my mimaki, I have to say this post doesn't surprise me. They make pretty darn good print heads for low volume printers, but I would never bank on one for a high volume shop after all the problems I had with their aqueous machines. I was really...
  19. Epson GS6000 & Mimaki JV33 comparison

If you want a printer for indoor POP stuff then grab a Canon iPF9100 or an HP z6100. Both are cheaper than a solvent printer with much better color gamuts. They might use 12 inks and you might balk at the idea of having to buy 12 separate inks, but what uses less ink? Printing red with 100Y...
  20. Photoshop CS5 JPG export wrong size !!!

If you save as a jpeg instead of saving for web it should maintain the correct size and pixel count. In my experience the save for web feature only uses the pixel count and defaults to 75 dpi.
