I've experienced problems with backlit substrates mainly with the "washed out" look. Most of them have a coating on top of a clear film. Use a film that is translucent in itself. Opti-UV Backlit Film (Advantage) is one you may want to try.
Edit: You're not using UV. Try Opti-Solve Basic Backlit...
When I do artwork and they want the file, I charge accordingly knowing that it is now their art to do with whatever they choose. I would let it go as a live and learn scenario.
Used to work at a place that used one similar to this (same brand, also). This site may give you some info you're interested in.

Hope it works out! I just went on a golf trip. Headed 5.5 hours south to get away from WI weather, and woke up the 3rd day in lots of snow, and it didn't melt away for the rest of the trip. Really turned out to be a waste of time away. At least the first two days were nice. Hit 'em good!

WOW Rick - that bottom one is awesome!! I really appreciate your input! I figured I should see what he thinks of what I have, and I know it will go through some tweaking. I'm still not sure about the font, and the rest of it is too large. Next time I'll hire you!
Still messing with the color scheme, but you see the direction I took it. It's not quite right, but I'm not quite sure what's bothering me. I'm going to come back to it later. See any obvious influence? :Big Laugh
That's exactly what I started doing, and then I realized it was looking like Charlie Tuna! I'm back to messing around with my original concept. I'm having fun with it.
I LOVE THOSE! Unfortunately for me, you guys already did about the best things that can be done with the initial concept, so I'll probably scrap it!
