  1. Plug In Thoughts?

Which realistically isn't a problem--it's something prepress people have and always will ***** about, but it's their slot in life. One person can only handle so much expertise (because we're all going to die, time is not infinite) and there's not a lot of reason for many designers to thoroughly...
  2. Plug In Thoughts?

Out of curiosity, have you played with CS4+'s Shape Builder Tool?
  3. How do you price vinyl?

Are you guys not following the part where you're making as much or more profit for less work? Same design setup, etc. but no table time, less material cost, etc. Read it again: you could be getting the same or more profit on the table for less work. Gino, your points are all valid and I'd...
  4. How do you price vinyl?

LOL run for the trees commonly accessible information is being posted again from sources found through easy searches here and on google and mixed with basic business markup! Sorry but obfuscation isn't a business model and I find yard signs at $35 to be ridiculous. That said if you can get that...
  5. Would you do this?

Frankly as far as I'm concerned anyone who hasn't dressed up for Rocky Horror at least once in their life hasn't been living.
  6. How do you price vinyl?

You can outsource 18x24 CMYK yard signs and get ten for $40 wholesale plus shipping, sell for $70. Client gets ten for the price of two, you made the same profit (probably more depending on material margins and how you produce signs) and did almost no work. If you can sell one sign at $35 you...
  7. New goodies in signVOX.

Wow, way to keep hustlin' :rock-n-roll:
  8. Mimaki Latex printer

JV3 print heads aren't "user replaceable" either but yet half the shops on the forums with JV3s have done just that. Not that I ever want to do it again now that I'm spoiled by HP...
  9. Vending machine decal

We just did a bunch of vending decals on Oracal 3105HT, no problems reported so far from the field. Like you, we moved to it after 3651 was having issues staying on.
  10. HP L25500 Carriage Belt problems

We had the axle on the tension wheel shatter like Sign Eagle's on Monday, be careful about putting too much tension on it. The HP tech said his replacement is beefier than the one that ships with the machine, but who knows. Took until today to get a tech here and it fixed because Monday was a...
  11. designing large banners for print in photoshop

I'll do 300 for no-curl but that's trade show or P.O.P. and people get right up to it (of course, the OP is talking trade show, so...300). Vinyl banners hanging someplace? Much lower is fine and if the view distance is significant it can be really low.
  12. How do you price vinyl?

3 Goats I don't have premium but this question has been answered about 400 times in the last month alone, use search.
  13. Would you do this?

Sure why not, dresses are comfortable. PS I'm scottish.
  14. NAS fileserver?

I'm in the exact opposite camp of OldGoat. I build my own fileservers for a decade or more but the small business NAS machines being put out now are bulletproof, fast, reliable and affordable. I mean real NAS machines, not consumer grade crap like Iomega or whatever. My vote? Synology DS411+...
  15. Companies Move Manufacturing Jobs Back to America

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Productivity#National_productivity A hidden factor is work quality...many vendors I talk to that had outsourced have had to scale it back or stop all together because their loss rates were so high overseas. The quality just isn't there or there is too much time and...
  16. Anyone have a source for a F1600 Formula F template?

He'll be running a Van Diemen FF with a Honda conversion I guess. I can find pictures but no template, not even of an unmodified Van Diemen FF. Customer just needs a template asap for his marketing guys or I'd go out and draw one myself for in-house use. Good suggestion to call the manufacturer.
  17. Anyone have a source for a F1600 Formula F template?

As the title says, looking for a template for a F1600 Formula F race car. This is for some sketches for sponsorship attraction materials so precision isn't required yet, just something close. Any and all help appreciated, thanks!
  18. Need a logo designed

Depends on your city. In our city dead tree yp still makes sense, newspaper never did (doesn't really for small businesses that are B2B anyhow). In my previous job we advertised in the paper weekly and it was worth it. Age of your regional population, type of business, state of the local...
  19. Pms 7463c

Time to buy the Pantone+ books, seeing more and more designers using them.
  20. designing large banners for print in photoshop

This is good advice. Illustrator's raster engine is really inefficient and only 32bit (meaning it's slower to render and work with). Make sure when you import the vector elements into Photoshop that you do so as Smart Objects.
