  1. History channel hits program new low

See the thing is back in the day, everyone learnt what americans were like by watching the TV America Exported. You just had to respect a country that was like Bonanza with the morals of John Wayne. Now? Is it a wonder they think they can get away with terrorism? Dog the bounty hunter? rescue...
  2. History channel hits program new low

Now what we need is "the sign guys". A reality tv show about a buncha guys with tatoos, beards and missing teeth who install wild and crazy signage...maybe wearing cowboy hats or bandanas. Now that would be TV!
  3. Winter Install of Perf material

I have done perf almost at freezing on flat surfaces. No real problems.
  4. Hourly Pay

    ...more than you are getting?
  5. Mac Tac dry erase film comes on a clear liner?

Ah the clear backing, I had a lot of optically clear with clear backing, that was a PITA. It tries its best to wrinkle as soon as the lam comes off the back. I guess the clear back has some purpose. Does yours at least have some printing on the backing?
  6. Debt free or new machines??

are you in business to grow or have a comfortable life? I notice that web design projects brought you a wad of cash, yet machines will force you to go in a different direction.
  7. WOW, as in WOW, ever have a gun pulled during a job interview????

Western and Central Europe homicide rate = 1.5 per 100,000 people. USA is 6.1 per 100,000 people. Canada is 1.85 per 100,000 more guns means more murder...founding fathers intentions aside, the only real purpose for a concealed gun is either to threaten death or to actually kill. Sorry...
  8. WOW, as in WOW, ever have a gun pulled during a job interview????

it must be a sobering to walk around in a state where many people carry the means to kill you on the spot. The very fact that an employee was walking around with a concealed gun would effect the running of the shop. I have worked with some very excitable people in the past, who I'm sure would...
  9. Anyone have homemade racks under their printer to keep prints off the ground?

I have a couple of ikea clothes racks with a 6 inch tube on the top, not really needed for adhesive, but great for banner. Also good for outgassing and just draping stuff over to keep the table free. I think one of my winter projects will be a catcher for when I'm cutting vinyl though.
  10. Cutting Excess Vinyl Off Banner

I use the Sooper Edge, nice big neoprene pad underneath so it doesn't slide and can handle a slightly warped table. it is the tool I use the most in my business and has saved my fingertips many times.
  11. Grainy Print Quality

I run a lot hotter than 35 for all my vinyl, I found the grainy issue with banner was solved by more heat.
  12. 6 color ink vs 4 color ink

I have the VP540. Yes it's 4 colour process. I can count on one finger the number of times in the last year the gamut wasn't quite detailed enough. The 6 colours will be useful only if you do a lot of high quality work...professional photographic quality. Ordinary sign printing, printing...
  13. Cutting Excess Vinyl Off Banner

...is this a real question? You go down to the hardware store and buy a knife and a ruler with some finger protection. How are you managing now? Do you chew the excess off?
  14. Adobe's new pricing strategy

Okay a handfull of the new features are nice, but frankly when I paid to upgrade to CS5 I felt cheated. (not as cheated as I did a few months later when that blatant cash grab 5.5 came out). 99.9% of what I use was done in CS2, all I gained was more stability in .pdf files. Not to mention I...
  15. Helvetica Font kills Internet Explorer

My IE is so buggy I have switched to firefox. And of course I would rather have Helvetica than IE. lets all go back to Netscape.
  16. Severe Bubbles on Layered Vinyl

there is worse than getting a little heat...getting no response at all. mixed in with the flames was a good answer. To tell the truth I have never had to preassemble, now I'll avoid it if I'm tempted.
  17. Etched/frosted Glass Vinyl?

Oracal 8510, used a ton of it in the last year, it has the same silver cast as the aluminim window frame. If you find one you like stick with it, otherwise you end up with a lot of little roll-ends. Bubble free etched? I'll have to look into that.
  18. Wet Installation Help

another vote for rapid-tac, but I too have encoutered that window treatment that is designed to shrug off dirt. It also shrugs off frosted vinyl, I had to redo that one dry. plus customers love the smell of rapid-tac, a nice chaser to the harsh isopropyl
  19. Window Perf Laminate

tried all kinds of laminates, never happy with the results so I usually run with no lam. I have tried all kinds of perf/lam on my own vehicle and was never happy with the results. I let my customers know what to expect.
  20. small UV flatbed choice

It looks like the mutoh, mimaki or roland with the roland really trailing behind. The jf1631 is probably the front runner because it has a vaccum table and I have a local supplier, then the ValueJet 1608HS, but thats a pinch roller so...
