  2. Roland vs Mimaki

love my VP540, but I know the others are good too. Essentially the print/cut machines are great for startup and space restrictions, both Roland and Mimaki are workhorses and will do the job, however sales and service support are the key. Go with the best support and training in your area
  3. anyone have the VersaUV

I too am interested in a review. I have heard good and bad, what I need is a horses mouth.
  4. UV flatbed?

I am subbing out some of it now, as ever I don't look at the total price, but at the number of sqft I need each month to pay the lease. I have noticed in my search for a trade printer that there doesn't seem to be anyone in my area with a digital UV. I need another hobby.
  5. UV flatbed?

This process is certainly a lot muddier than getting our solvent printer. I have little doubt its the right way to go... but I have to sell the wife on $85k of leased debt. THAT is the hard sell.
  6. UV flatbed?

thank you, thats just what i'm looking for. I went for the solvent Roland VP540 because its a workhorse, nothing fancy and not fast. I'm looking for the same out of a UV machine...alas I don't quite trust the Roland UV.
  7. UV flatbed?

I know this thread has been beated to death, I have gone through the archives and still have some questions; I'm looking for a UV flatbed to supplement my exisiting roland vp540 solvent. Sub $100k (ish), good colour and durability, decent front to back register and not too tough learning...
  8. What should I do??

Client agreed the price. the Agency needs to go to the client for the money. However sounds like the Agency doesn't want to lose the client. Can you negotiate some kick-back and save the relationship? I am always leery about working with agencies because of issues like incredible mark-up...
  9. Print and cut on same machine

I have to admit to being biased since I havent tried one of the other brands, but the Roland VP540 is ideal for a first (and only) machine. While in no way fast it is a reliable workhorse that comes with a decent RIP and an easy learning curve. We got one when we brought our signage in house and...
  10. How often does the encoder strip need to be replaced on an SP-540

We are still running on the original strip 3+ years on. I'm thinking some other factor must be aging yours. I guess we all want to see pictures!
  11. I think I will be a vegetarian...

Wow what a lot of exclamation points in this thread!!! It's quite simple; With just about every square mile of viable land either in use or built on and with most of the worlds population teetering on the edge of starvation, we must have more efficient ways to feed people (or stop them...
  12. Damn flies!

You work with the worlds largest flypaper, Just take the backing off some of your rejects and open a book on how many you catch in a day.
  13. Web Hosting

before you go with a host check the spam blacklists for the host IP. I was sharing a server with a bad spammer and wondering why my emails were getting eaten by spam filters... because I had the same IP.
  14. Mounting prints to yard signs, Lam or no?

We like to lam them. Since we aren't a UV flatbed shop we aren't chasing price. We make them to look great and last years.
  15. web site cost

I spit out my coffee at some of the prices for a 4-5 page website. Then again it depends on what you want and your budget. We do them 5-6 pages based on either existing or bought CSS templates including domain setup, a years hosting and email setup for $5-600. Takes me a couple of hours...
  16. Font manager?

I'm giving suitcase a try, 30 day demo. seems okay and after years of ATM anything seems better
  17. Toby....my dog needs to be put down....:(

You have my sympthies, had to go through this pain many times and it never gets easier. Don't let it drag on if she is in pain with no hope of a clear day. It only gets harder the longer you look in those brown eyes.
  18. Font manager?

Having finally been forced to upgrade my XP to system 7, I had to kiss goodbye to my beloved Adobe Type Manager. A relationship I'm sure lasted for 15 years through both Mac and PC. Now I'm in font flux. What recommendations can you give for decent font management software that will play nice...
  19. magnet signs ate my customers truck

I doubt you have to get them to sign off, but you have to have a sheet, put it in with the magnets when handing them over and for good measure have it on your website. Anything so a customer can't claim you didn't tell them how to avoid the damage.
