  1. how does the "little guy" compete

Make a bunch of coro signs with all you info on them. Than dress up like a ninja. Than sneak up to the competitions shops one by one and super glue your signs to their front doors. Than, when the shop owners call to complain, offer to redo their door graphics at whole sale prices. Voila...
  2. Printing media 101

Colin, I see that your in Canada. Where? a few things. 1 - I'm a one man show too and I've got about 20+ rolls of various media in stock right now. Some of it was brought in for 1 job only. thats doesn't include all the lam I've got too. I'm not to worried about it because it will get used...
  3. Mouth opened before brain was engaged

Haha. Love it. I had a client ask me for 2 pieces of 36"x60" frost. In a moment of total clarity I told her I couldn't do it because frost only comes in 48" rolls. She said - Ok, I'll go somewhere else. So I told her good luck while thinking to myself, nobody around here has frost bigger...
  4. window perf

I had a client with the same problem. He's trained his staff to dim the lights at night. You could also front light the graphics.
  5. beef jerkey

Uhh, I do believe is a smoker is an entertainment centre. It's reality in HD!
  6. beef jerkey

Shakey, invest the money in a smoker. there's lots of choices to suit any budget. I personally have a Bradley Digital Smoker. It cost me about 500$ but it was worth every penny. It's super easy to use and next to impossible to really screw anything up. Plus, they have a great forum with...
  7. Can VersaWorks Let me know if I have enough Ink?

I find versaworks gives fairly accurate readings on the 220's but not so much on the 440's. I usually wait for it to stop printing (this is when the beeper goes off) and than I change the cartridge. Remember to hit "re-try" in VW to continue printing. You may or may not get a color shift/band...
  8. beef jerkey

This is where I spend the rest of my time. http://forum.bradleysmoker.com/ Lot's of good jerky recipes. I think your first problem is that you're missing the smoker.
  9. Liquid Laminators?? any suggestions or reviews

Only used one liquid laminator about 10 years ago so I'm basing this on old technology. I don't remember the model number but it was a Seal and about 11' wide. Let's just say that I hated that machine. An absolute nightmare to run and even worse to maintain. With that being said, new...
  10. Laminator poll

Tony, I'm not sure what you guys are doing, but my guess is that you don't need the heat assist. I have the Royal 55" cold laminator. I don't have any problems with it and the price was right. When I started shopping around, I really had my heart set on a Seal (that's what I learned on) but I...
  11. Will Colorprint stand up outdoors ?

Interesting. I've often thought about trying the same thing. I would probably try a spray lam with a lot of UV protection. I can't see why it wouldn't last outdoors, after all, it's made to go in the washing machine and the dryer. Let us know how it works.
  12. 98in and above laminators?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you would have to get a liquid laminator for anything that size.
  13. Does your printer have any damage from cold temperature issue?

You should really keep your printer and media in a climate controlled room. Helps to keep your investment safe and greatly improves your odds of printing sellable graphics. I've never experienced any problems with to much cold but my printer has shut down during a heat wave.
  14. Poster Printing Paper Recomendation

I've had pretty good luck with PosterMax but I've recently been using Rite Media photo matt paper. It prints like a dream. In fact, I've printed about 115 Sqft of it today.
  15. Salesperson Compensation

Hey Edserve, What percentage of the sale are you paying the salesmen? Are you offering anything else like benefits?
  16. Whats up from Maple Ridge, BC

Welcome from Burnaby! That's some really nice work you guys are doing there.
  17. What Would You Do.

Yup, the deal has changed and so should your price. OR, I'd produce the graphics and that's it. No trimming, no masking or anything else that may be involved. Let the installers deal with it. YOu can call it "New company policy".
  18. Mesh Printing With XC-540?

Rite Media makes a nice mesh that works great on the Pro III. Not sure where to get in the states though.
  19. Corrupted JPEG files using Versaworks 4.0

Resaving a different format seems to do the trick. Also try changing the file name. versaworks doesn't seem to like certain symbols - IE - () $ ^ - I'm not sure which ones don't work but it does happen.
  20. Banner weld

Things to consider when buying a welder. What do yo need it for? What kind of volume will you be producing? What kind of sizes are you dealing with? 2'x3' or 10'x20'? Space requirements - You need space for the machine itself but you also need space to work on the banners. IE a 10'x20' is...
