  1. IJ 180C vs. IJ380

Yes at the expense of being so soft and pliable that it's more difficult to install. I had a chance to try it with a sprinter door and it goes down into grooves really well, but it's like trying to install unlaminated vinyl fresh off the printer.
  2. Priming JV5 dampers

Second set of hands? Try shooting DigitalBBQ a PM. He seemed to very knowledgeable in another thread about priming the dampers on a JV5. While they might be slightly different in shape than yours the principal should be the same.

  5. Rasterlink profiles for ES3 inks

1440 16 pass with a double strike is pretty darn slow. Although I print my canvas art prints at 1440 32 pass and the color is frickin awesome. I find that a nice vibrant red is achievable with a 720x720 16 pass bi setting. You can push the printer harder to reach some better reds, but only a...
  6. is it the Summa/ flexi or to long a usb 2 cord?

There's USB extenders that can run cat5 cables ridiculous lengths and use your USB connections. I used some of these daisy chained to reach my summa plotter: Link to product I've never had a cut job stop part way through. It can take a little while to establish a connection with it...
  7. How to run business out of my home...

Can't beat a two step commute. I owned my own commercial building for 15 years in B.C. and can't even fathom a commute again after setting the new shop up at home. Maybe a I'll move to a bigger house someday, or some property with a shop built on it. Or perhaps a commercial location with an...
  8. Please help with this laminating problem..

Get your lead edge stuck down nice and straight. This is probably the most important step. If this isn't 100% then it'll bunch up for sure. When sheet laminating, especially if it's using media from the tail end of a roll that has a lot of curl in it, it's best to let the media and laminate sit...

Ding ding ding..... we have a winner. Tell the good folks what he's won Chuck.
  10. Please help with this laminating problem..

Try to ensure there's a very slight amount of even tension on the laminate as it's going over the last roller before it get's applied to the media. It really helps when sheet laminating. Roll fed lamination has the tension built into the system. You need to add a little yourself when the feed...
  11. What version of Wasatch SoftRIP for connecting multiple JV4s/JV3s?

I have 6.4 and it can handle up to four devices. Wasatch has vendor specific models of their rip. I bought the mimaki edition that contained only the mimaki drivers and it was a big savings over their regular rip that can handle printers from any manufacturer. I'm sure if you were you to add a...
  12. Rasterlink profiles for ES3 inks

Reds are very difficult to hit at the best of times. Try increasing the resolution and the number the of passes. It will greatly increase the available potion of the red gamut. You're just not going to get "great" reds printing at 720 8 pass. Not with the ES3's anyhow.

  14. Catalyst + Reducer + Shorts

Just a word of advice about a similar situation I found myself in. No matter how badly you need to pee while you're making chili. I mean even if you're 5 beers into the afternoon and standing at the kitchen counter cross legged jumping up and down. Even if your teeth are floating around the...
  15. JV3 and JV33 non stop!!!

The JV33 in particular seems to benefit greatly from keeping the area around the head clean. Considering how little you wipe off during the cleaning process it always amazes me what a difference it makes. Your friend is either selling his work far too cheap or is far too cheap himself. If he's...
  16. Dealing with Static

Have a big job to mount or laminate? Mop the floor before you start. No-static, no cost, floor stays clean, shop looks good. Swiffer sheets are the cat's pajama's for the smaller quick and dirty jobs. I haven't ruined a lamination due to dust or hair since I started using them.
  17. looking at an old cutter

The offset world has been hit hard lately. Lots of auctions for really good gear. If you think that old battle tank will save you time, wait until you try and computerized cutter. It makes all the positional changes automatically between cuts. You just shove the paper in, cut, turn to the left...
  18. Help to cut out MX Decals laminate

If your blade isn't fresh you'll have trouble with the thick stuff. A 60˚ blade is considered a sandblasting blade. At least with Summa it is. I stuck a 60˚ double sided blade in recently and it sure cuts nice. I can get through 6 mill with a 12 mil lam in 1 cut at less than 400 grams pressure...
