I was ready to be all meh about it.. being the cynical jerk that I can be, but I liked that a lot. :thumb:
  2. New Printer

Spend all of your money on a good printer, then buy the cheapest POS laminator you can get.. that's what I did... By the time you get done reprinting all of the ruined panels and it takes an additional couple of days to get the job done, you will realized you asked the wrong question. Best...
  3. Save your scrap

I use scraps to make samples. Otherwise I would just throw them away. I don't have the time or space... now drops are another story.. you never know when that 12"x96" piece of lexan is going to come in handy. Since this thread refuses to die, I figured I would add my .02.

  7. Spider Stakes--Problems

I just went through the same exact problem. I'm going to end up giving the customer credit for the stakes and see if we can find a solution to the flimsy aluminum h-stake for yard signs that doesnt cost a fortune. I was really hoping the spider stake was the answer.

  10. Always back up

I just bought a 1TB external hard drive that plugs in via USB. It automatically saves every file on my drive, and automatically backs up every change. I think it was about 60 bucks. It's not a ghosted image though, so if my HD dies, I will have to reinstall everything.
  11. were you creative as a kid???

I was a day dreamer, and couldn't ever pay attention in class. All of my papers and homework would be covered in doodles.. just shapes, swirls, etc all along the margins and edges. I always liked to draw, but have never been worth a flip at it... I also liked to take things apart to see how...

select your frame extraction with your selection tool, and hold control and click the letters you want to cut... then cut selected paths. I also dont necessarily print from the same file i am cutting.. if you are using registration marks, you can make them before you print - saving the file...
  13. Anyone use Fine Cut 8 for Illustrator?

a couple of ideas. first try converting text to outlines, and select the word. then click the cut selection. on your next screen, you will see a preview pane.. click that and it will show you all of the cuts it is going to make. Are you sure you aren't clicking on a frame extraction...

Hem tape. Nobody has ever complained.

  16. reflective & water application

I'm debating using some Rapid Tac to try an install over again. I don't do the installs here, but we had a case where we needed some translucent vinyl applied on some white acrylic. Once you put it on the light, you see tiny bubbles everywhere that make the sign look dirty. I know it's air...
  17. Changeable easel "specials" signs

Wow, the property management company won't let them put an easel in front of their store? Sheesh. We use A-frames with coroplast signs velcroed to the front, and let them write their special with dry erase. Dry erase laminate, etc.
  18. So is this as good as it gets?

It does look like the blade is slapping around. or maybe try it with another vinyl?
