  1. Nuke the Fax?

Haven't had a fax machine in years. People just email me pdfs now. If I absolutely have to, I run the phone line into the computer and use fax software for those that are still stuck in the 80's.
  2. GRRRRR I hate banner vinyl...

Here in Canada I was using ND's house brand of 13 oz super smooth double sided and is was great stuff, but they've been back-ordered for months now. It wasn't the cheapest, but it was close to it and worth the couple of nickles a square foot extra. Since then I've tried LG Bannux which was...
  3. Graphtec vs Summa cutters

I'd never used a vinyl cutter before and was up and running with the system (Summa T140) within minutes. I use it with my JV33 and a wasatch rip with the contour cut option. My summa arrived with a strange problem where it was occasionally not recognizing the head positions. One call to tech...
  4. cjv30 cutting problem

Looks similar to what was happening on my summa. In my case it was a calibration issue. The knife head position in relation to the opus eye wasn't set-correctly. Although mine was only out about 1/16th of an inch.
  5. Printing around 1500 sq. ft. per day on value jet need help!

The redundancy of two machines is also an attractive feature in the case of a machine being down for repairs. That's a lot of volume to come to a screeching halt if the only production machine breaks down. Device link profiles would ensure color matches when jobs are split amongst multiple...
  6. Dealing with a client that doesn't pay. What to do???

In Canada you need to take them to small claims court. It's not very expensive and no lawyers are required. In fact they're discouraged. It's only available for disputes under $10K. Take your records down with you and a record of all your correspondence with the customer. It will take a long...
  7. sandwiching print in acrylic

I did some footpads for a video game recently that were front printed on backlit film and then applied an adhesive over the printed surface and laminated it to the back of some .375" clear lexan sheets. Worked like a charm. All you'd need to do is substitute the backlit film for another media...
  8. static and vinyl application

X2 on the wetmop of the floor. Works like a charm. I tend to give a final wipe with a (just) damp paper towel to remove any static from the actual substrate. A swiffer sheet works just like a dryer sheet without the possibility of transferring anything that could decrease adhesion.
  9. told a supplier to gfy this morning!!!!

Gabagoo, try EM plastics next time. They tend to stock a lot of pre-cut sign blanks, or will cut them to size for you. At least the Edmonton branch does.
  10. JV33-160 Error 7 question

According to the service manual it's an abnormal temperature condition in the head. Their suggestions to fix are: Turn power off for 2-3 minutes and try again. 1: Reconfirm the head temp with [#test] - [temperature.chk] - [nozzle temp] 2: Make sure that corresponding FPC, main FPC are...
  11. Uneven Print length on JV33

Update, taking the take-up reel out of the equation brought everything within tolerances and all the panels now line up within 1/32nd of an inch to each other over the 8' height. I moved a work table over to front of the machine and had the prints roll out onto a bunch of old 3" tubes to...
  12. Seiko 64s Ink Drops

My mimaki will do that occasionally when it's dirty and needs cleaning. 5 Minutes of maintenance and it's all gone.
  13. 100%CMYK Black Swatch for Adobe??

The reason why you see some funky percentages in CMYK rich blacks is because they are using the maximum amount of total ink to create a neutral black based on what's allowed by the icc profile. Rich or boosted blacks can contain anywhere from 30-60% just cyan or magenta, or be made up from a...
  14. Uneven Print length on JV33

Yes, all the files were created from the same multi-layer photoshop document. Identical file resolutions, sizes, etc. The files all line up perfectly on-screen. I saw no indication of banding anywhere on the prints that would indicate slippage and as mentioned in the original post the media...
  15. Uneven Print length on JV33

Here's the deal. Customer supplied artwork for a pop-up trade show display. Printing the graphics on Intellicoat's PosPro300 polycarb media and the print lengths are coming out different by at least 3/8ths of an inch between panels. Since the graphics contain both horizontal headers and footers...
  16. How is business....

Nothing but slow and steady growth here. I've seen a real increase in business since September 1st. The calls have dropped off a bit more recently, but I have enough work in the shop already for November to be a very good month. I'm turning the lower paying jobs away with no fear of picking up...
  17. problem cutting polycarb laminated decals

I think the Samurai is onto something with the lay flat technique. That polycarb is pretty rigid stuff. When it's bent like it is when it runs through the cutter, any time you start cutting through it, it will create a weak spot that rises up into the path of the blade.
  18. Illegal IPT 180?????

    Call the cops?
  19. Best vinyl for HPDesignJet 130?

Since the printer you're using uses dye based inks they will not "bite" into any vinyl except one that has been treated for use with aqueous inks. This will really limit your choices.
  20. how much should i charge

How much money could you ask him for for this job with a straight face? That's what you should "try" and charge.
