  1. Golf tournament floating letter frame: how to

Got ropped into a meeting about doing some floating letters for a golf tournament. Can handle the letters but the floating platform not so much. Anyone ever done one before or have any suggestions of how to get it out there and keep it floating? I would think assemble a crude open bottom...
  2. Lets see some pics of larger out of the ordinary jobs

Not a lot of work but just because it was huge and a ton of fun to drive.
  3. Rant Who robs a sign shop?

We got hit in the mid 2000's. They broke into a vacuum place a few blocks away and stole one of the massive, 1950's style pink vacuums, which they they hurled thru our front windows. Took the petty cash, a PC, and some unfortunate personal items one guy foolishly left in his desk. Our shop is...
  4. Decorative Window Films....

Are you looking a Decorative Films pricing before or after the re-seller discount? We bought their seller's sample pack and it has led us to some new jobs. If BigFish has some alternatives I would look into that but so far Decorative hasn't done us wrong, gotta pay for good quality materials.
  5. Artwork/design pricing and deposit procedures

Hi All, I was hoping to get some inspiration about how to go about charging for artwork and if anyone collects a deposit. Our issue: 90% of our customers need sign design and some kind of artwork creation. Been trying harder to collect deposits and informing clients of the total design cost...
  6. Insurance from Hartford

We're being audited very soon by Hartford as well; we do do wraps and pictures are all over the website and shop. We have had them for maybe 20 years, never once filed a claim, and this is our 3rd time being audited. Anyone have any suggestions for workmans comp companies?
  7. Acrylic letters on interior subway tile

We have a client moving into a food court. They would like some acrylic letters on their subway tiles. I am thinking just 3M acrylic tape and silicone for mounting. Any tips for prepping or do I need to stud mount?
  8. Looking far a work-around for 1/2" UltraBoard

Try Gemini with their GemLeaf. Howmac has their Metal/Gator combo that is exact replica of what you are looking for.
  9. Proof/layout assistance: how much information to include?

We nailed the PMS from the Illustrator file, they wanted to make the change after delivery stating that we should have told them it was XXX color instead of them knowing it was in the file given to us. Also on your other post, how do you do your best to calibrate proof color accuracy from RGB...
  10. Proof/layout assistance: how much information to include?

Our printer nailed the 541c from the file, upon delivery they noticed the color they actually wanted was completely different. We did as much as we could given the file.
  11. Proof/layout assistance: how much information to include?

I probably need to update to add this line as I fear this will become more prevalent moving forward. In both cases only after had we printed did we find out the embedded color was not the desired color from their brand guidelines....given to us after proof approval/print.
  12. Proof/layout assistance: how much information to include?

Well I don't know if the starts were aligned correctly or the universe has it out for us but I had the same issue twice last week with clients and proofing. In booth occasions the client said the colors printed were not the intended color, that what PMS # that was embedded in the file was not...

  14. Sign Mounting on Metal Wall

Just self tapping metal screws, if steel predrill. Or if you really want to wow them you can make (or have any metal shop make) a 1" tube frame and attach that to the steel. I would use ACM or aluminum sign however, PVC will warp in any direct sun.
  15. Is anyone using Arlon DPF 510GTR w/ 3510G Laminate?

Definitely short term POP stuff. We put them on some vehicles for a 6th moth thing and had some (10%) failure rate. I would suggest Oracal 3164 or my fave Arlon 4500, I think either are in that 130-150 54" x150' box price which is pretty darn good. Grimco Briteline stuff isn't terrible either...
  16. Tape mounting dimensional letters

Can you stud mount to drywall? Is the thickness of drywall enough for silicone to hold the studs on acrylic letters?
  17. Phototex alternative for curved surface?

I would probably wholesale the print, Sign365 or others all use Ij-180 and comparable laminates. Depending on the size/curvature you could align the panels in house, keeping backing paper on all but the overlaps, then apply as one large piece, that would help to keep registration accurate.
  18. Need Help Composite sign that you can use magnets on as well

Denco carries a steel faced ACM clone. Comes in 3mm only and like $95/sheet. We also make out own by gluing 26ga cold roll steel to sintra, about the same price but would rather have it all done, painted, and double sided thru Denco.
  19. Need Help Dimensional Letters offset of a wall

Thats what I was thinking. Around that same vein I have a client that wanted fabricated alum. letters to be stand off 1.5" from building face into what I am guessing is drivet on brick/concrete. Any idea on that install? (I am trying to talk them off the ledge that is metal letters 1.5" standoff)
  20. Need Help Dimensional Letters offset of a wall

Would those work if stud mount letters? If so.....how?
