We have a 48" x 24" 150W laser, but we're also cutting thicker plastics. Depending on your budget, it might be worth getting a higher wattage just for those times when you DO need to cut thicker plastics (it'll also make quicker work of thinner materials). Universal makes a very good product...

$1,000 is an impossible budget for a wider printer/plotter. I haven't looked in a while, but I'd expect you're going to be somewhere in the $8k to $10k range for a used 54" printer/plotter. Brand new, around $16k to $20k.

Maybe at your shop. Here we routinely deal with dimensions in the ten thousandths. If an employee can't read a tape below 1/8", I'd be seriously concerned.

If they gave you a file that had the 541C PMS color in it, then it's on them. They picked the wrong color, then they approved the job, then they decided it wasn't the color they wanted? That's all on them. If you're feeling generous, maybe offer them a slight discount on the reprint.
