  1. Rant Customers who want things asap, but won't get you what you need

It's the same no matter if you're dealing with a single banner or project for an entire facility. I can't count the number of times we're sitting on a project that's tens of thousands of dollars, waiting to start production because "marketing has to get involved" or somebody on the board of...
  2. Some clients...

I'm not even going to read this whole thread, I already know what the other posts are going to say, because this place is nothing if not consistent. You shouldn't have to tell a customer that you do design work for that modifying existing files for them is going to cost them money. Anybody...
  3. Question On Print/Cut which one is better?

They're good if you're not high volume and you need/want to save space. Otherwise, you're definitely better served by having two separate machines.
  4. Frosted and printable

This is what I was thinking. It looks like direct printed polypropylene. We've done this before and I would never do it again.
  5. Discussion How do you stay organized?

We use Asana (and Harvest for time tracking when necessary), plus some proprietary software for job tracking between locations, plus dry erase boards.
  6. Today

    Very nice penmanship.
  7. Need a printer that prints white on clear

Accurate statement! White ink contains large amounts of titanium dioxide which has a tendency to settle and cause issues. Even printers with ink recirculators can have problems unless you run white ink frequently. If you do go with a white ink machine, it's definitely worth following burgmurks...
  8. Suggestions mid range flatbed printer

They're a little more expensive, but you should be able to get a comparable one for less. I believe we paid just over $250k for ours brand new a few years ago. There are other VUTEk models that may be more affordable. While I don't love Fiery, the machines themselves have been good for us and...
  9. Suggestions mid range flatbed printer

Check out the VUTEks. I've been consistently impressed with their printers. The HS2000 in particular is a workhorse and has roll to roll options. It's very fast as well. You can probably get one in or around the range you're looking.
  10. Question Maximum Size sign for DiBond panel with 2 Cement Buckets

Are you suggesting that you're going to mount the face to posts and set the posts in concrete buckets? Why not just bury the posts in the ground and call it a day?
  11. Logo critique and advise please.

For what it's worth, the last three sign companies I've worked for were all doing $2 million plus a year. None of them are even top three for this area. None of them are chains. Everybody in this thread needs to chill out, because you don't have to do one or the other. If you're trying to do...
  12. Logo critique and advise please.

I'm not a designer by any stretch, but it looks pretty solid to me. I agree with ewded about the M and T. It's readable, even Eders. I don't think anyone is going to be confused. Except maybe by the spelled of "eaters", but that's out of your hands.
  13. Suggestions mid range flatbed printer

What's your range? Do you NEED a true flatbed or could you make a hybrid work?
  14. What on earth vinyl does this? holy %$%$

Didn't MacTac switch to a gray adhesive a couple years ago?
  15. What on earth vinyl does this? holy %$%$

Yikes! That stinks. The only time I've ever seen anything remotely similar (lots of adhesive left behind) was a shop using non-wrap vinyls. No idea what brand it was. Usually with a permanent adhesive. Good luck.
  16. I need a great picture of a wine cellar

If the viewing distance is less than 15 feet (what kind of wall are we talking about), anything lower than 75 DPI is going to look "not great". [Edit: That would require an image that was over 10k x 15kish.]
  17. I need a great picture of a wine cellar

How is this helpful at all? visual800 is right. Seems like there are some pretty decent unlicensed wine cellar pictures you can grab with a Google image search to present to your customer (just make sure you save a copy of the image first, in case it disappears).
  18. best flatbed for fine art printing

In all fairness, ours are pretty old and probably due for replacement. I don't like the ink adhesion, I don't like the finish, and there is always banding. The VUTEks definitely outperform them in speed, quality, and durability (but they're also more expensive by a good margin). They're also the...
  19. best flatbed for fine art printing

Depends on your budget. The swissQ printers are going to blow just about anything else out of the water, but you're going to pay for that quality (think $400k+). The higher end VUTEk printers (hybrids) are also capable of getting very good print quality, but in my experience they lay down a lot...
