  1. Pre-cut VHB Squares

You're not kidding. Removing the liner is infuriating. We do a lot of ADA sign packages that are hundreds (sometimes thousands) of signs at a time that require four to eight pieces each. Much easier to pull the tape off of rolls ready to go.
  2. Pre-cut VHB Squares

That's what we do now, too time consuming for the volume we need.
  3. Pre-cut VHB Squares

    Nevermind! Found it!
  4. Pre-cut VHB Squares

Anybody know who makes pre-cut 1" x 1" VHB squares for mounting small signs? I've found them online from companies that are clearly buying VHB, cutting, and reselling, but does anybody know of a company that manufactures pre-cut squares so I don't have to pay an arm and a leg (beyond the already...
  5. Need Help What a FAIL. Glass door all scretched up. Anything to fix it?

I hate to say it, but if you used an old, chipped blade, you very well could have done this. My guess is the scratches were there the whole time, you may not have noticed them because you were focused on the finished work. I have personally never scratched glass, but I've run into a few times...
  6. Edge Lit Signs

Gyford has some LED standoffs that are pretty awesome. I'm not sure what the technical limitations are, but you might check with them and see if they have a solution. (I'm assuming you're talking about etched cast acrylic and not printed acrylic.)
  7. New Guy The 50-year-old Startup

So how is it going now? Has it gotten any better over the last year? You don't necessarily have to close the doors. There's nothing wrong with brokering until you can get enough money flowing in that you can start producing in house again.
  8. CNC router for foam

If you want to cut MDF and acrylic, hot wire cutter is out of the question. Zund probably has one of the most versatile CNC cutters on the market, but there are a lot of really good middle of the road CNC routers too.
  9. CNC cutter egly edges in ACP

Agreed, looks like the wrong bit. Spiral O flute upcut bit for ACM.
  10. Need Help #m vinyl peeling off natural gas truck

Did you install it in cold weather (sub 50ish)? I think most manufacturer's recommend at least 50 degrees to install. There is a definite risk of adhesive failure if you install in cold weather. I've had it happen.
  11. UV vs Printed Vinyl Pros and Cons

I'm a big fan of UV direct print. Especially LED. If we can do a direct print, we do it. Outdoor lifespan of UV ink is generally pretty good (around 3-5 years, as Pauly mentioned). Depending on your droplet size, you can get VERY high quality prints by printing second surface to glass or...
  12. I need a good analogy

Then he's spending his own time and resources when he should just be able to say, "Hey, this is the way it is." Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have a sample (kind of like the one in this thread) to show to customers if they make a big stink about getting good (or even reasonable) files. You...
  13. Installing a sandblasted redwood sign on stacked stone

You know I was talking to Marlene and not you, right? I even quoted her post. It ain't all about you all the time, Gino. ;)
  14. I need a good analogy

This is all because of shows like CSI with people sitting behind computer monitors saying, "Zoom in. Enhance. Enhance. Enhance." That's not how it works, it's not magic.
  15. Installing a sandblasted redwood sign on stacked stone

I'm interested in seeing the final product and finding out how you managed to get it on the wall. Keep us updated! Good luck!
  16. Installing a sandblasted redwood sign on stacked stone

I don't necessarily disagree with everything you're saying, but the current cultural zeitgeist defines cool, not a bunch of old sign makers. Cultural trends, by their very nature, are an expression of what's cool. That being said, saggy pants with underwear showing haven't been "cool" for a...
  17. Installing a sandblasted redwood sign on stacked stone

I'd have a response for you, but I don't need my inbox flooded with any more tears.
  18. Installing a sandblasted redwood sign on stacked stone

Gino, I didn't say I agreed with it. You are, however, terribly mistaken. Aesthetics, the classics, and cool are not all "one and the same". Maybe to someone from your generation they are, but, and I really do hate to tell you this, you're not cool anymore. Sorry. I'm not cool anymore either...
  19. Installing a sandblasted redwood sign on stacked stone

Clearly you aren't in touch with the aesthetics of the younger generations. The reclaimed aesthetic is very "cool" right now, Gino. Personally, I wouldn't hang that sign. That's just me though.
  20. I need a good analogy

We (folks in the sign industry) have to ask customers all the time for better art. ALL. THE. TIME. If you have clients from sign and print shops asking you to "handle it" when you ask for better art, just remind them that just like they need a reasonable image to print, you need a reasonable...
