  1. Banding problem

Possibly. Usually the dampers are the first thing to check, since they're cheap and easy to replace. If they're clogged again, you might need to investigate why they're clogging so much. If you're running it 24/7 you might just have to replace them more frequently. Running third party ink? Like...
  2. Banding problem

The cartridges don't feed ink directly to the heads, so it could be anywhere between your ink cartridge and your print head. I'd start by checking for a clogged damper.
  3. Banding problem

Vertical or horizontal lines? Assuming horizontal lines, since it looks like an ink starvation issue. Probably only happens when you print large blocks of the same color?
  4. Just In Lowe's is now competing with signs

Don't forget about hiring people who lack a basic understanding of tools. "Where are the post hole diggers?" "The what?" "... post hole diggers?" "I'm not sure what that is." "Really? It looks kind of like two shovels bolted together so you can dig a hole for posts?" "Oh, you mean scissor...
  5. What Equipment is needed to bend aluminum edge?

Whoops. I meant shear, but typed brake. That's why it was only tangentially related.
  6. What Equipment is needed to bend aluminum edge?

Tangentially related, but used to work next to a company that had a HUUUUGE shear and every time they would cut material with it you could feel vibrations through the concrete floors.
  7. Discussion Wondering how many have done..............................

I used to work for a company that printed all the trusses for a lot of the major foot races around the country. The dudes who installed the trusses came and picked up one for a pretty major foot race (I won't say which one), but several hours after they left I was walking through the production...
  8. Question The new Roland Tru vis

Capping station is working like it's supposed to. The print carriage locks like it's supposed to. The tool carriage separates like it's supposed to. For some reason, still throwing weird errors. We're still under warranty and there's a tech coming out, so hopefully they can figure out what's...
  9. Laminate Help Needed

We kind of just switched over and gave customers a heads-up that the prints might look a little different, but they were going to be getting prints faster and cheaper and the quality would be the same. Unless they had very specific needs or were matching existing prints, they were almost all...
  10. Laminate Help Needed

I'm not butthurt, it's just mind boggling to me that you think a basic shop skill is worthless.
  11. Laminate Help Needed

We do a ton of direct print.
  12. Laminate Help Needed

You're comparing apples to oranges. Hand carving is not the same as running a CNC router. Hand painting is not the same as digital printing. You're not getting the point, which is pretty clear by now. No, "anyone" can not laminate "good enough" in a time of need. Feel free to prove me wrong. Go...
  13. Laminate Help Needed

Quite the contrarian, huh? Hand painting signs isn't even remotely similar to digitally printing signs. Hand laminating and machine laminating are the exact same processes, just done differently. You clearly didn't read my post or you're being intentionally obtuse and confrontational (or maybe...
  14. Laminate Help Needed

That was the main appeal for me: not having to unload and reload a laminator. We just don't do enough lamination any more to justify the purchase.
  15. Laminate Help Needed

Wow. So your take is that we have laminators, so why bother knowing how to do anything by hand? Not even sure how to respond to that. Hopefully you're never in a situation where you need to get something out the door and your laminator goes down. You could think about how you should have...
  16. Laminate Help Needed

I've always wanted one of those, but it's hard to justify the expense unless you're laminating and mounting small runs all day long. Can put a whole roll on a laminator and just put boards through to mount them. Flatbed applicators just look neat if nothing else.
  17. Question The new Roland Tru vis

I like our VG-540 when it's working, but you're correct: it is definitely not a perfect machine. It does what it does well, but it's not the end-all-be-all. If it did everything, we wouldn't have a need for flatbeds, latex printers, or repro machines. Mainframe needs to quit being so histrionic.
  18. Question The new Roland Tru vis

It definitely has some bright colors and does high quality prints. We're just having issues with ours at the moment. I'd run something real quick if it was up and running. I'll see if I can't find an older picture of something cool we've done.
  19. Laminate Help Needed

In all fairness, being able to laminate well by hand is a skill that's definitely difficult to master. Being able to hand laminate reliably is, in my opinion, more valuable than being able to operate a laminator, but there's no reason not to be able to do both well. Especially since operating a...
