  1. Need Help laminating..

We've done jobs like this too. It's not super efficient for a TON of jobs, but if it's a one or two off its handy-dandy. We just cut the laminate the size we want and apply just like applying vinyl through the laminator. It helps to leave a leading edge on the media being laminated so it can be...
  2. Suggestions Looking for a........................................

I ruined a huge studio mat right after I left school during a print residency. I was never very popular there afterwards. However I do sew so I took that lesson right home with me :)
  3. Need Help VP-540 no black or cyan printing

Before you make any more test prints, I'd be careful your media is flat to avoid any head strikes - in that photo it looks like they're a large ripple in the media, and the media clamp doesn't seem like it's holding it down. You really want to be feeding the media flat and smooth into the...
  4. Shout Out To Gemini

We just got a phenomenal looking brushed aluminum/gloss metal combo sign, and it looks SO classy. Heavy as heck, but the clients were so impressed that it looks like it's not going to be the last one.
  5. Suggestions Looking for a........................................

I can't help suggest a brand, but I can tell you I've ruined one by ironing on it! So be careful about heat, if that's helpful at all.
  6. White back removable window graphic

Yeah, we've used it with the Eco-Sols with varying curly and non-curly results. Also YES should have mentioned that too - ours were interior, not sure what OPs project is but I agree, I can't imagine it working outside.
  7. White back removable window graphic

We use Briteline occasionally, and it's fine enough - but we generally use it for very temp or somewhat cheaper jobs. It would probably leave residue though, and the stuff we use is not egress. You're putting up fairly large panels on glass, and it has to stay up a year, but also can't leave...
  8. STUPID F*&$@** CORPORATE BRANDING DESIGNERS

See stuff like that makes me feel like I should be charging $500/hr at a big design firm. I can zip files!
  9. We have a vaccine

If it makes anyone feel better, we "locked down" for 3 months (not really a lock down cause even dollar stores were considered "essential") and the sign shop still had business. It's not like people went home and just stopped. They went home and continued making business plans and continued...
  10. Discussion What is different?

A lot of businesses provide house-made goods directly. Restaurants make you things on the spot, cafes make you lattes on the spot. I really don't understand the question?
  11. STUPID F*&$@** CORPORATE BRANDING DESIGNERS

FileMaker, eh? Thanks so much for this!
  12. STUPID F*&$@** CORPORATE BRANDING DESIGNERS

I'm in charge of both of these at our shop. That being said, I'm the only employee :D Just me and the bosses! I find it great - I never stop learning or finding better practices or skills in that position. I'm hoping, over the next few years, to add some other types of design/production to my...
  13. How many different vinyls do you regularly use?

We also use cheaper generic stuff for temp signage, high quality matte for our longer term signage, cast vehicle vinyl, a number of different orocals for cut, scrim banner, etched vinyl, window perf, a few specialty rolls leftover from projects.. lots of rolls back here! but we really go through...
  14. Discussion What is different?

Can't disagree more. Even kids right now know good customer service - it's just that often these days, good customer service might also mean "having an accessible website" or "will email you back, not just phone call" or "has exampels of work on instagram".
  15. STUPID F*&$@** CORPORATE BRANDING DESIGNERS

I wonder if he knew he was BSing you? Or if he genuinely thought he had the skills? I've heard that the person I replaced was just unable to do the work, but I don't think they knew it.
  16. STUPID F*&$@** CORPORATE BRANDING DESIGNERS

Yeah I also graduated with a BFA with a focus in print, specifically - and there was absolutely no design involved whatever. Never touched a computer for my degree except for essays or research, or occassionally printing transparencies to shoot silkscreens. It was very old school (intaglio...
  17. I Want To Make My Own Profiles

I also found experimenting with the Color Management dropdown in Versa helped get some POP
  18. Question Suppliers for acrylic and plastic formed letters

We've never had an error with our Gemini orders. However, we do outsource a few jobs to a local fella with a CNC, depending on the project.
  19. Kinda in a jam

I did a test print a few weeks ago on some of our cut vinyls, aside from very obvious banding because I didn't have a profile for them, it didn't seem to print poorly.
  20. Question Sign Design Revisions

Yes we've definitely encountered the "can you just...." clients. I love almost all of our clients and I appreciate that they want to be part of the design process, but I also think that for the best end results the distance is important.
