I'd think if you were printing 8pass or 12pass unidirectional you should be able to get a really nice print. I do small stuff like that all the time with my S40. The design must be pretty intricate.

I assume you're cutting in the slot between the platen and the heater on the front. Does it advance when you start a print and how much excess are you talking about? I can start mine right at the edge of the platen without any issues and that's not much extra on it.

Doing 2 passes you're going to wear it more since you're doing double the cutting even if the second pass is easier on the blade, you're still doing 2 passes.
