I have presets setup in Onyx that can put dots only the the top and bottom and left and right that helps maximize sheet size. I also use oversized sheets when available like styrene, ACM and PVC. I also have preset templates for items like 18x24 and 24x36 and send just the print file over...

One thing to try, make sure the stroke line is on the center of the line. If you put the stroke on the inside or outside, some rips will read that as a double line. Onyx does that and it expands the stroke and cuts both lines.

You could use a white print leader just to get it started and then it doesn't matter what they back color is.

Overspray/Static or it's actually in your file and you can't see it on the screen but it amplifies on the print. Even a 1 1 1 1 on cmyk will put dots in white.
