  1. SignGold vs RealGold

I ended up ordering it shipped overnight , job is behind already. It is more gold, SignGold looks brassy next to it. The only thing I don't like is the engine turn is a little too perfect. People were great to deal with.
  2. SignGold vs RealGold

I have a job to do that specs Large Engine Turn SignGold but it's out of stock everywhere that I've tried and at least 4 weeks out from the manufacturer. I'm going to look at RealGold. For those who've used it, does t look the same? Could I use the SignGold I have in stock on one door and...
  3. Curve correction for windshields and curved surfaces..?

I just hold a straight edge across, measure the amount of arc and go with that. Print one paper pattern to confirm
  4. Large indoor polycarbonate installation advice needed

Why polycarbonate if it has to match the paint? Make a pan using .063 or ACM and paint to match. Mount letters with thru bolt studs. Mount clips to wall with proper fasteners and then screw or pop rivet face on the edge
  5. 2023 Wrap Up. First Year Doing Sign Printing Business, No Experience, Gross 800K, Net 0, Need Advice!

Like others said, you did it backwards and way too diverse in expensive machines. Doesn't even sound like you're in the "sign" business. I guess the best you can do is an analysis of what makes money and focus on those. If you can't drum up work for the other machines you may have to cut your...
  6. Handicap parking sign pricing

Last time I priced 6" galvanized pipe for a bollard install like this I was shocked, it was hundreds. If you're pricing it without install how do you handle the bollard w/uchannel? Do you just supply the parts or do you have to provide the bollard with uchannel concreted in place? Either way...
  7. HDU Sign reinforcing

If you want to be safe do 1.5" HDU with a backer panel cut from 6mm ACM or a couple aluminum angles. That will help if anyone tries to grab it. But most wouldn't use anything at that size.
  8. Tipping Question

My installer has received tips a few times. Not a regular thing at all though
  9. Gemini Letters

First trace the letters on paper. Place the pattern on corrugated cardboard the use short pointy studs in the letters, line up an press. Then mark hole with a marker. If you want you can spray glue the paper to the card so you now have a nice stiff tear proof pattern
  10. Stomp shear vs panel saw

If I could only choose one it would be the panel saw because it can cut many more materials. I was looking for an 8' stomp shear for a long time but they were rare and usually sold when I saw them. I had a chance to get a 4' shear from a shop that was closing and I'm really glad I did. It is...
  11. What material is this?

Could be any of these guesses. But I also see the lines which could be from a faux gold print pattern being tiles. We do a lot of repairs on fire trucks that we didn't do originally and sometimes we just have to redo it all becuase there's no way to match it.
  12. Replicate existing dimensional letters - CURIOUS

I agree with them probably being cast aluminum. Looks like they are incredibly old or were painted by the sign company, not someone like Gemini. I'd price a the replacement letters from Gemini, buy them with as close a finish as you can to the final color. Remove them all and paint them all...
  13. Whats the max width for a sign on a single post?

That sign looks like it was in a hurricane and the sign stayed on the post so the issue isn't the aluminum. I would still prefer two posts for a 3' wide sign though.
  14. Newbie Designer Here

Brad gave the best advice, read up on those subjects, especially Mike Jackson's book. Second, s sign has a job to do, keep it simple and legible, what looks good on a computer screen doesn't always work in real life. Oh, and if you ask questions here have a thick skin, lots of angry keyboard...
  15. Need Help Old Bank back lit sign to be replaced with new liquor store info

If sign is on the ground susceptible to damage use polycarbonate and if you want to match that logo order black print on translucent white You are also going to have rearrange the logo to make it work on that size background
  16. Magnet alternative??

    No
  17. Logo Design

His first one is a rip off of an existing design and his second one sucks , makes no sense, what with the giant D and the illegible scrawl that supposed to be claws. At least your simple one is legible, but the claw marks remind me too much of Monster Energy. I would make sure your billing is...
  18. Gerber Question

    won’t work without the dongle
  19. How To Cut Aluminum Composite Material

We use our panel saw for big pieces and shear the small ones. Hit the edge with a file or round bar if needed
  20. Contracting with another sign shop

Yea, most of those companies that advertise on SOT aren't looking for national accounts. They aren't interested in working with small local shops. You can try calling some of the medium size local electrical shops, you may get lucky. We had some luck with that but when they got busy our jobs...
