  1. Starting to show banding

Which direction are the banding lines, in the printhead movement direction (horizontal) or the feed direction (vertical)? I would suggest adjusting the media feed compensation. It's called Distance Adjust in the Mutoh. On most printers using straight line pass printing, you see light or dark...
  2. Sign printer VS Canon 8300 printer ?s

Perhaps some clarification on ink longevity... The 6-8 months lifespan is typically for water based pigmented ink outdoors. Prints done on these type of printers, i.e. Canon, Epson, HP, for indoor use have a much longer lifespan, i.e. in the 25-100 year range or longer, depending upon the...
  3. roland tech in chicago area

Call Mark at Sign Outlet Store - (630) 737-0146. They are the local Roland dealer. They are located in Lilse. Tell them I sent you. I've done some work with them in the past. They're good people. Regards, Jim
  4. ink on encoder strip

I know this may sound crazy, but what actually works very well for cleaning encoder strips is acetone. You will need to remove the encoder strip from the printer to do this properly. If this is a JV3, you will find it easiest to remove the bracket that the encoder tension spring is attached to...
  5. Help!!! Roland FJ52 & Epson printhead head rank?

You are absolutely correct. I just installed 2 DX2 heads in a Roland SC-500 last night and that was the case. My heads had the head rank, a 5 digit number, on the side, but also on the inside wall above the damper posts, in black as Tomence said, so it may be hard to see. Regards, Jim
  6. Help!!! Roland FJ52 & Epson printhead head rank?

The number on the top is the head rank setting.
  7. Transistor for Roland

I would need to know exactly which model you have to advise you. It would involve hooking the suspected head up to a different channel on the printer. You are now entering an area that should really be dealt with by an experienced technician on-site. I don't know your level of technical...
  8. Where can I buy an alignment scope?

The LED's in the Celestron's lighting have enough of a blue content to make it very easy to see yellow, so no need to do anything but look at the screen. Hey Trent - staying busy in the warm where 50 degrees is like a blizzard for us.
  9. Transistor for Roland

If you are checking it because you are blowing fuses, then you do not need to remove it from the board, as it is shorted and will read zero ohms across 2 legs, even while still in the board. If you are checking it for any other reason, you will nedd to remove it from the circuit to get an...
  10. Where can I buy an alignment scope?

I'm the tech tbaker (Hey Trent!) mentioned as having the Celestron digital microscope. It works very well for me, especially as I use a netbook in the field. It makes doing the fine alignment on the Mimaki very easy. One of the useful features for me is its ability to take pictures and videos...
  11. Wall decal edges curling

Also, as the cutter blade is cutting through the vinyl and ink, this may allow the ink to leach around the edge of the cut and down to the adhesive, also attacking and degrading the adhesive at the edge of the cut. iSign's explanation probably has the most dramatic impact.
  12. convert back to ecosol max from mega ink

Agree with Bobby. I worked for MegaInk for 2 1/2 years as a tech and color profiling specialist. Bobby's instructions are spot on the way we did it.

  15. SP300V not feeding straight.

Also, the pinch rollers may be getting worn flat. The outer pinch rollers are angled to push the media outward on the edges. The older printers are starting to have this sort of problem as the rollers flatten out from wear. I have replaced the rollers on a number of older Rolands recently, and...
  16. Banding

When cleaning the encoder strip, use alcohol with a low water content or pure alcohol, which is better. I had a customer use 70% alcohol and he wiped out his encoder strip. It is a piece of graphics film and water will soften the emulsion and make it easy to damage during cleaning. If you've...

Did you enter the print head "head rank" when you installed the head?
  18. Epson DX4 Print Heads - Are they all the same?

I am a Tech, Roland certified on the older ProII and VersaCAMM's, though I don't work for a Roland dealer anymore... Started out back in the day repairing Radar, Communication and Navigation systems in the Navy for 6 years, fixing boards rather than replacing them. Now, I'll try my hand on any...
  19. Epson DX4 Print Heads - Are they all the same?

The head rank setting is determined by the print head manufacturer. It is a fine tuning of the voltage setting to account for variations in the characteristics of the print head nozzles in each head. When you enter the head rank numbers in your printer, you are telling the printer what the...
  20. GRAINY PRINT USING ROLAND 545 with ecosolv inks.

Your problem is most likely bi-directional misalignment. If you want to easily confirm this, run a print in bi-directional and again in uni-directional modes. There is a bi-directional calibration you can run in the user menu. Look in your user manual under "Making corrections for printing"...
