  2. Ever taken a job that..

I deal with the same issue - the other day I had some guy come in and say he wanted a couple of banners, even pointed to a banner on the wall and said "like that". Took the order, paid the invoice that said (2) BANNERS, proofed him on BANNERS, approved the proof, then when he picked them up he...
  3. Cutting stickers out

Are you printing & cutting via registration? I do this daily (printing and cutting the decal, then cutting the backing paper about .13" away from the edge of the vinyl) Shoot me a PM and i'll tell you how I do it.
  4. Can you contour cut perf?

I'd imagine so. I use a graphtec so I print out crop marks on regular vinyl, then apply them over the printed crop marks on the perf so the machine has no problem reading the reg. marks. Give it a shot. And to the lamination, unless you are making small cheap o's (if there is such thing), i'd...
  5. What am I supposed to do with this...the follow up.

I think it looks great, seems like it would fit the style he's looking for overall and still sell the product he's promoting. As with any customer, i'm sure he'll have a few tweaks here or there, but it can't be much - looks great to me. Should be an easy sell.
  6. Thankless Job

I'll start by saying this was an UNPAYING job, and turned to be quite thankless. This will be a bit of a rant. So, elementary school music teachers works part time at my fiances work - wanted a couple banners to hang in her class room. Went, measured, turns out 3 banners (2 - 2'x20', 1-...
  7. Ideas for substrate holder

For full sheets (and scraps) I find it best to store flat as opposed to standing like many tend to do. Unless you keep it jam packed all the time, the sheets will warp pretty easily making it harder for routing, etc. etc. If ya got some space, build a rack that'll store them flat.
  8. Returned check charges....WOW!

Common thing for me, posted a sign on the wall and on my workers stating our policy on returned checks. It's ridiculous, but..they should be more careful with their spending habits.
  9. PT Cruiser never again.

Excellent design and installation! Looks awesome.
  10. Matte Lamin on Perf

Very significantly. Even gloss non optically clear laminate is hard enough, so I can just imagine matte.
  11. Printed banner pricing..and another ?..

Square foot IMO is good for giving a customer a "ballpark". A 4'x8' starts at $192.00 (hypothetically) and don't tell them that is based on a sq. ft. price of $6/sq. At that point, they see they have all you can eat buffet. Just use the sq. ft. for your "ballpark" pricing, then when they bite...
  12. pole banner hems

I made some 6 months ago or so, printed on the back side of the banner, laminated it, then printed vinyl and laid it on the reverse side and put pole pockets on top & bottom. They are still up and look great. I would have printed on both sides of the banner material, but not quite pinned down...
  13. real estate riders!!

Oh yeah, I was just using the figure for a hypothetical product and situation, not particular to a real estate rider. If you're in a market where you CAN get say $10 for a product, but someone else happens to sell it for for $5..but you are busy at $10, no reason to go down to $5..then, you are...
  14. real estate riders!!

Some people (these particular sign shops) are happy living paycheck to paycheck and plan on working until the day they die with no retirement, and don't plan on sending their kids to college (or don't think about it). Fred has some of the best advice on this stuff..work smarter, not harder. If...
  15. longest print ever?

Close to 80' here. Did a shuttle bus wrap. Loaded it up at 4:00, printing by 5:00..done by 8:00am the next morning.
  16. Printing banners

I'd run a cleaning cycle, definitely keep the head up when printing banners, and unroll some slack from the roll when printing (and keep some slack in it). Colors shouldn't vary like shown just by adjusting the head height. Def. run a cleaning cycle, then give it a shot again with the head in...
  17. Printing banners

Did you change the profile? My colors don't change that much when just adjusting the head height. Also, try unrolling some slack from the core on the back of the machine when printing banner material, helps it to prevent from buckling. GL with it.
  18. 3m ij35-20

I thought only the comply had the 3M markings on the back. When I first started using non-comply, no markings, then when I went with comply it had it. I'm the same way, when I hand of decals or anything not applied, I like for them to see 3M on the back of it.
  19. 53' Trailer Wrap

Couple factors I would consider..how busy are you, and the selling price of the wrap. Is it going to cost you more money and cause you to have to hussle more than it's worth to keep up by printing it in house and taking up valuable time? On the other side of the table, *IF* a panel messes up...
  20. Need some tips on installing a printed sign

No transfer tape IMO, but the right material will make a difference. If using a calendered media, it'll make the rivets more difficult to conform and they will eventually pop back. cast media will be best for ease of installation and longevity of the installation. Either way, i'd sugest center...
