  1. PC can't find SP540V

My IT/network ignorance is driving me nuts! I recently replaced the main board in my SP540V and now I'm trying to upgrade the firmware to 7.3 & set up the printer. The priter is connected by ethernet cable. I'm running the old 1.2 version of VersaWorks but it has worked perfectly in the past. If...
  2. SP540V 'SUM ERROR' message

The service manual says that before attempting to install the firmware to the new main board, hold down the 'left', 'right' & 'up' keys together whilst turning the main power on. (the sub-power is off) I've done this but nothing happens, the msg 'sum error' reappears on the LCD screen...
  3. SP540V 'SUM ERROR' message

Thanks Jim, that's sure helped. I've just printed off those pages and found that they mention the 'sum error' message etc if the incorrect procedure is followed. I'm not all that computer literate but I'll try to work through the service manual instructions on tgose pages and see how far I get...
  4. SP540V 'SUM ERROR' message

Thanks SE Sign Supply. I didn't fully understand your original suggestion but I've now checked them against the board I removed and, yes, they are set the same. I also got hold of a full Tech service manual which shows these same settings. I can't get past the 'sum error' message to upload...
  5. Versa Camm Quits Prints Early

Hi Joe, I have a 5 year old SP540V (basically the same printer - they share a lot of parts) and had the same problem along with some other weird intermittent problems. I did exactly what you have done...plus we even replaced 4 capacitors on the main power board which looked a bit suspect...
  6. SP540V 'SUM ERROR' message

I've located the 8 dip switches on the Main Board. They are set as per the Service Manual as - 1 & 2 - Off, 3 - On, 4 to 8 - Off .......where/how do I match these to the 'printer' ?
  7. SP540V 'SUM ERROR' message

Thanks, that makes sense. I've got firmware V7.3 ready to install and I'm running VersaWorks 4. Excuse my ignorance, I've heard of the dip swithches but I don't know what/where they are, or how to set/match them to the main board...
  8. SP540V 'SUM ERROR' message

I've just installed a new Main Board in my SP540V. When the main power cable is connected and turned on, the display panel shows the message 'SUM ERROR'. Nothing else works, including the Menu button. When I hit the sub-power button, the message "VersaCAMM BOOT VERSION 2.00" appears breifly when...
  9. Roland SP540 connection problem

Hi Sign Depot - I'm having exactly the same problem with my SP540V ethernet connection and getting the same error message after upgrading to a higher version of VersaWorks but I suspect that my problem is on the Main Board. Maybe you can try reinstalling the printer driver or Try this -...
  10. Roland Sp540v no menu display

I replaced the Control Panel Board and the peizzo alarm no longer 'sounds' but within a few days the LCd screen stopped working. I suspect that a problem exists on the Main Board but for the moment the printer is working perfectly (except that the LCD screen is dead) so I'll tackle that another day.
  11. Printing problem could be encoder strip?

In my experience, Greys (particularly lighter shades) are notoriously hard to print. Sometimes they print as intended and somethimes they come out 'grainy' as you have experienced. The exact same file will print a slightly different shade if it is output as an .eps, .pdf or .jpeg This doesn't...
  12. Roland Sp540v no menu display

The printer is still printing perfectly but the buzzer is now sounding in a totally random way. 'Joeshaul' has suggested that a intermittent and faulty voltage may be being output from the buzzer or display-control chip and this sound perfectly logical. However, it appears that, unlike the Main...
  13. NO BLACK after head clean!!!!!!!!

For the benefit of others reading this discussion - had similar problems with my SP540v Yellow/Magenta head stopped printing - 101 forum advice was "check the transistors" (mosfets) - got a tech. wizard to remove and check the transistors (all good). Further 101 advcie was to check the F2 & F3...
  14. Roland Sp540v no menu display

I removed the Control panel ICB and inspected (with the aid of a magnifiying glass) the copper traces. I can't find any obvious problem - corrosion, debris, cracks, dirt - the only visual thing I have noticed is that whilst I can read the printed details on the chip, this chip appears 'duller'...
  15. Roland Sp540v no menu display

Thanks joeshaul, that's excellent info....the LEDs light up as per normal with the heater LED flashing as it heats up etc. I can do a test print, a sheet cut etc as normal. I'll pull the covers off and visually check the IC's as you've mentioned. I'm happy to remove & inspect the IC Boards but...
  16. Roland Sp540v no menu display

Thanks Joeshaul, 2nd question first - there were no outages, spills etc and I don't think static was a problem becuase it started with my first print of the day. However, I was about to print a lot of yellow and I knew the Yellow ink was low, so after I'd pressed the 'Go' button in Versaworks...
  17. Test Print problem

Read the reply from "Chopper" under the heading NO BLACK INK AFTER HEAD CLEAN!!! He explains the flushing technique better that I did...
  18. Test Print problem

Hi Mattc, I have had the same problem with my SP540v on a few occasions. Soaking doesn't always give the desired result. I trick I was shown (and it has worked for me in the past) is to put some Roland cleaning fluid into a syringe and force it through the head via the ink feed tube a few times...
  19. Roland Sp540v no menu display

I'm not getting any response to pressing the Menu button - the display shows unintelligible gobblygook and a peizo warning sound eminates continually from behind the control panel whilst it is printing (perfectly) The 'Print Test', 'Base Point' and 'cut' buttons function normally. The high...
  20. SP-300V Blowing F2 Fuse When Sub Power On

Hi Bish & others reading this post - had similar problems with my SP540 Yellow/Magenta head stopped printing - forum advice was "check the transistors" - had a tech wizard remove and check all transistors (all good) but then we found that one of the capacitors located next to the F1 & F2 fuses...
