Being hooked into their proprietary software has been a headache for many who've spoken to me, after they wanted to upgrade to a 'proper' plotter later on, and realised how limiting these 'crickets' were... meaning they had to redesign files on 'proper' software (Corel/Illy etc).

I thought Finecut worked only with Corel Draw or Illy. We use Corel. But there's a sequence of connecting it and installing the USB driver - and if you get the sequence wrong, it won't find the plotter, so I've found. I suppose if ought to work with Flexi, but I have no idea.

somebody an idea? does the usb only works with Finecut? Hi, You WILL need to go to the Mimaki website and download the Finecut USB2 driver. or the CG130SR USB2 driver. Unless yo download their USB driver, and run it, you won;t get the machine to work. It's a free download

What did ER6 cost? Is it the Pro or the basic version? (I'm still using V4 - happy with it, but occasionally wonder if I'm missing out on something by not having v 6- mainly in 3D relief creation. I won't go the subscription way, either)

How 'new' was the company doing it? This looks like the work of a total amateur who doesn't know lasers nor substrate oddities.

Thanks - I did. I downloaded it to 2 different PCs. Both times it just sat there blank. In the line or pane where you are supposed to be able to choose the brand, Agfa, Canon, Epson, HP, etc, there's nothing. In the line where you pick the model. Blank. No options. (see screen shot attached)

Have you still got the installation discs for ER3 ? (were you using Pro, or Basic?) You can buy a Win 7 PC, second hand, cheaply, and load ER3 onto that. I've had occasional issues with Win 10, but no worries with running it installed in Win 7. (From memory the dongle also worked for ER 4.0)

There is a sequence to follow - you load the USB driver, BEFORE you plug the plotter in to the PC and turn it on. It fails to connect if you turn it on first.

Freehand paint it. It'll take you 2 weeks to psych yourself up to do it, and 15 minutes to actually do it, if you know how to use a paint brush properly. This being a sign forum, one might hope so! ;)

(That's the colour bars getting in the way of the crop mark detection.) I solved it by putting white masking tape over them - just run a strip of masking tape over and it won't register they're there, as it's looking for black lines.

The Mimaki website has all past exe files for the varied legacy equipment they've made. You can go there, search, and download it. There are LOTS - just look for the right one. You will need your original Finecut installation CD to verify you have it, but the files you download are stand-alone...

P.S. 20+ Years ago the rule of thumb among many letterheads was to avoid any plotter named after an animal or bird... ;)

'Cheap' ? I'd stick with Roland or Mimaki plotters. We have an ancient PNC1300 (that's 950 mm wide) and a CGFX2-130 - both are brilliant in work. BUT you will need the software to get the Mimaki going. However it is better than the old Roland basic Corel>Print preview. Those Creation P-cut...

Thanks for the reply - if there's no chemical difference, then it's only a software hiccup is it, that won't allow A, B & C to be used?
