A Respected Member Could Use Some Help

Here's what I sent to Fred last Friday via PM:

Hi Fred,

I was wondering today if there's a way in which the Signs 101 community can somehow be notified en masse with a request for donations for Arlon. This would of course need to be done properly, securely, (maybe through a bank?) and without Arlon knowing.

Any ideas?

Colin

Guess I owe you some undying gratitude. Any amount of money right now will go a long way towards helping us catch up on finances. Just got a bill the other day from an infectious disease specialist for $1300.00. I never had an infection so his services were never required. He charged me $130 per visit to stop in and see if anything was developing. We're disputing his charges of course. The bastard kept hovering like he was hoping I'd develop an infection!

Actually Arlo, I understand that this whole initiative was put forward by our resident atheist, Colin.

Good luck and best wishes.

I don't think so. It was Fred who made the offer via PM.

Many things that happen around here are things which a member brings to an admin's attention. The inquiry, as noted, came from Colin. Everything after that came from me. Speaking for myself, I could care less about any recognition for this donation drive except for the caring members who are responding with donations. The post by randya seemed, to me, to be totally out of place to the intent of the thread, so I ignored it.

But let's hear it for Colin who was thoughtful and considerate enough to bring up the matter. :thumb:

Fred, it was by no means meant to diminish what you've done or are doing.
This is an incredible site and I am personally amazed at all you do.

The ONLY point I make is that even the God-less are capable of compassion and caring.
Sorry, if it appeared awkward or out of place.

this site is great in so many ways
for advice, humor and sometimes aggressive bickering(just to keep you on your toes..haha)but it is just great to see how everyone can come together to help out someone who you only know by a website or blog or whatever it is we have here
it doesn't take much to help (which is good because from reading these posts most of us don't have much, including myself) but i have had 3 tragedies in my lifetime where help was needed and i had friends help in any way they could (food, money, a place to stay or just someone to talk to) and hopefully i don't need it again but you just don’t realize how much something like this means to the person until you have actually been there
again just wanted to say how great everyone here is in helping and caring
and thanks to all of those involved with keeping signs 101 going
and get well arlo!

This is the first time I have seen this thread.
Arlo I hope you get well soon, I sent a lil help your way. After reading your post and hearing your story, I now think I have no problems. I cut about a 1/4 inch of my finger off last Fri. and I was pissed at myself thinking how much of an inconvenience it was going to be until it heals. I could not imagine being in your shoes.
Take care.
