The Mueller Report

Nahhh............ television on a whole is pretty pathetic. There's nothing worth watching anymore, except the old B&W re-runs of stuff from the 50s and 60s. Unless there is some horrific tragedy, like Norte Dame, it's all sensationalism and according to what ya watch, even the dumb sitcoms and crap have their own political twists on everything. Everyone has suddenly become an official on the topic. There's nothing good on TV anymore, nothing at all.

Get rid of social media and 1/2 or more of our issues will go away!

I'm profoundly interested in knowing if you think we have too much freedom of expression in the U.S. and if limits should be placed on free speech?

How do you define "social media"? I look at it across many venues and see the most highly respected and trusted news organizations as well as fact checking organizations using it and having a major presence on it.

Should they be removed from it along with whatever you deem as those contributing to the "problems"?

There was plenty of free speech before social media. Social media did not improve free speech; indeed as we are finding out through repeated examples, it is anything but free because the places that provide social media push some kinds of speech and inhibit others from being seen, based on political viewpoint. The "algorithms" of social media also promote the echo chamber effect and push more and more extreme viewpoints on individuals who think they are seeing everything, but in reality are only being shown what the social media website chooses to show them.

News aggregator sites, like Yahoo, do the same thing.

I'm going to take the high road here and just say that I wish this was all kept quiet until its truly wrapped up to every(normal)ones satisfaction and all questions from relevant committees are addressed. This is their job and we should let them do it properly. Very few of the people up there are idiots and most came in from accomplished professional careers. A lot were lawyers or prosecutors, they know what they are doing despite how we feel about them.

It will never be satisfactory to some.

I skimmed the thread, but I'm going to summarize the situation because it seems many on here simply have bad information.

1. Mueller's job was to investigate and report on the President. He was never given the directive to file charges against the President in anyway. There is a line of thinking, especially adopted by GOP presidents, that basically says a sitting President cannot go to jail for breaking the law because they are the law. The only way to punish them is to remove them from office via impeachment. This is a quite controversial standpoint because our system is designed to have 3 equal parties and basically it's stating the executive branch is above the legislative branch. Not what was intended when we founded the country.

2. The Mueller report regarding Russia is pretty clear. Basically says Trump campaign and Russia's interests were aligned and there was communication, but there is not strong enough evidence/lacking evidence to tie Trump directly to Russia.

3. The Mueller Report clearly states Russia made a concerted effort to get Trump elected.

4. The report cites numerous situations in which the President obstructed justice. The President told his staff to do various things to stop the investigation or make it run less smoothly. He also himself acted directly to obstruct justice.

5. The report makes it clear that based on #4, there is enough evidence that impeachment is definitely on the table and the avenue Congress must take to move forward if they decide to punish Trump.

Long story short, you need to decide if you're cool with the following.

1. Having a President that obstructs justice.

2. Having a President that is good with Russia involving itself in our election process as long as it benefits him.

3. Having a President that lies constantly and directs his staff to lie, regardless of the situation.

4. Having a President that surrounds himself with criminal activity. Three of Trump's closest allies are going to jail (Stone, Cohen, and Manafort).

Regardless whats in the report. We have spent millions on this. If it was run like a business where the money would have run out 6 months into it we would not be talking about it. Talk about an unlimited budget and unlimited funds, I want that job. Its a government thing. The second thing is do you think the farmers in the midwest care, do you think people really care in general. It will not effect their life at all. Its a soap opera the story continues. Its like General Hospital every once in awhile a character changes. This will not effect your life of mine. Stop the madness, move on. Get a check in realty

I know... I mean, we all knew before we voted that Trump can be a shady at times, and convoluted in how he gets his way.. I think that helps when you're dealing with other shady and convoluted leaders out there. If we wanted a saint, we would have voted for Cruz.

I had a more robust response, but it won't matter. People are okay with this President breaking the law and putting his interest above everyone else. This means there is no reason to impeach. It will simply go down to 2020 and votes.

Actually, if you skim back a few pages you'll find a link to how the investigation more than paid for itself via the fines, confiscations and settlements paid by Manafort and others.

We are either a country that respects the law and due process of its application or we're a banana republic. Midwest farmers being severely impacted by ill conceived policy ARE being affected. Farm foreclosures, opiod abuse and suicides in rural America are at dabgerous levels. As are plenty of other segments of society. We don't live in a vacuum.
