Being a grandpa is more fun than working
Rex...I'm thinking more of the 70's version...the Wizzer...always getting wound up in my hair.

For all of us who were kids in the 70's, check this out:

Growing Up and Liking It
and the nuns making all the boys leave the room.
Making it seem like some big fun treat was going to happen.
The ugliest doll ever, Jane West.
Howard Johnson's clam dinners and bubble gum ice cream.
The welcome look of a Holiday Inn sign after a long car trip with 6 kids in the 1964 white caddy.
Gumby and Pokey.
Little Golden Books.
My big sisters using Dippity Do and giving me quarters for not telling my parents about their boyfriends sneaking into our room.

Did you ever roll your own? ...tobacco I mean.

and bobs mention of shakes and malts made me think, somewhere along
the way didn't malts get lost? Where can you order a Malted Milk Shake now?
And there was a time I can remember when all drugstores had a soda
fountain in the back.

Lincoln Logs

Coleco's handheld Electronic Quarterback (pong with chasing dots)

the old reel to reel tape recorders. 60's ipods I suppose. Blackmail machines in our house :thumb:

the Super Ball (one cost us a whole weeks worth of groceries one time!)

the good ol' monster models - Frankenstein, Dracula etc. Oh the smell of toxic Testor's paints and model glue.

Loved the Stingray!! Hated the viewmaster - very limited slide selection - probably all biblical.

And man, I'd forgotten all about those shattering Clackers.

for you girls out there.... SPOOLIES

erector sets.... all of the great baseball cards we ruined placing in the spokes

of your bike... the balloons you inflated and also placed in the spokes of your bike..

pretending your driving your dad's chrysler imperial with the wings on the back...

8mm home movies, with the bank of lights mounted to the top of the camera....

then sitting around at home watching them, over and over.....

I remember the S & H Green Stamps. We had the Top Value Stamps in this area. Got my first ball glove with them. My Mom made me put all the stamps in the books. I think it took a hundred books for that thing I wasn't smart enough to use a damp sponge. I think I can still taste the glue.

Remember when Arco gas station gave away a set of two Noaks' Ark animals with each fill-up. If i remember correctly, you had to buy the Ark. Oh, and of course there was the set with Noah and what's-her-name (Mrs. Noah).

How about dishes with a tankfull of gas or the metal lunch boxes. It's funny seeing the old Mcdonalds pictures I was born in Downey.
