They even give you your own storefront.
I think it is sign.com and they forward leads to you and you decide weather or not to act on them.
Then they take a % of the transaction.
Never used it, not really interested.

Each company has specific materials they work with so one of them may have what you want.
A regular customer asked if we could make something like the sign they have out of wood.
The one they have now is 15+ years old and is rotting. It is roughly 4'x8'

I haven't looked lately but when we were looking to upgrade a year or two ago there were still some new, older disc versions available on ebay.
Regardless of what version you decide on, make sure it will run the printer/plotter you have or are going to get.

Even if you add the fonts to the machine with flexi on it, you still need to restart flexi so it will load the fonts you just added.
They will not automatically show up.
Got an email from http://shop.acklandmediaframes.com/ yesterday with a no rivet frame system for what look like printed banners for vehicles and other applications.
Maybe you could stick one of these frames on and print up a sign for it.
Bring over a piece of clear laminate and apply it in a corner somewhere out of the way so they could try it first.
My guess is that most types of lam would be unacceptable.
Totally off topic but that is why I install mailbox posts leaning slightly towards the road, if the door is open and it rains it will not get the mail as wet.

I do have a couple of new, never used dx2 heads left over from a falcon I just scrapped for sale.
It is outside in the snow, if you need any parts they are free+ shipping.
Upgraded a couple of years ago to latex and have never been happier.
For smaller signs, USPS has small and large Priority/Express tubes which are triangular.
You may have to order them online since it seems that the local post offices normally do not stock them.
Oh, and I forgot to add they are free.
