  1. Bidding on Projects

I'm hoping to get a few opinions on how other shops handle when a client approaches you to quote on a large scale project. For example, we were approached by a committee looking after the construction of a new community centre, they are looking to get a donor recognition display wall, along...
  2. Anyone have a replacement source for the InstantOne Vinyl?

General Formulations is sold at pretty much any sign supplier
  3. Anyone have a replacement source for the InstantOne Vinyl?

We've had great luck with the General Formulations 220 which is a 6 mil semi-rigid film, prints great and is nice and thick for easy installs
  4. Printing Shiny (Glossy) on Matte paper

We have an S80600 so the same ink as you, when we print on matte material the end result is matte, however there can be a slight sheen difference between light and heavy coverage areas, perhaps this is what the client is seeing? the only solution for this is to apply a laminate over the print.
  5. Question Custom Branded Bathroom sign

In the original post he said it was a $20 so I assume he's putting it on a mass produced standard washroom sign. If it was a sign we were making, adding the braille would be a $15 up charge on a one off, if there is quantity it would be $8 extra. The bigger question is, how do you have the...
  6. Question Custom Branded Bathroom sign

We use the same method. How do you normally price this? For a single sign, we would be around $30 to add the braille, unless its for a good client, then we would reduce the cost.
  7. Question Custom Branded Bathroom sign

That depends on a number of factors, quantity, method of braille etc.
  8. Opinion Here's a Chat that I had with a large sign wholesaler....

I'm with S365 on this one, the amount of volume they produce does not lend them to custom 1 off jobs with custom instructions, there is a good chance a human doesn't touch the product until it's put into a box. A high volume online wholesaler is not the correct vendor for this.
  9. Exterior stand-off sign

I would use black acrylic as the backer then either apply printed vinyl to the face, or layers of colored acrylic, depending on budget and desired look For blind mounts, Gemini sells plastic pads you can glue onto the black acrylic with MEK
  10. Exterior stand-off sign

Easy, have the logo and text cut out without a backer, then blind mount it like Gemini would do.
  11. Roll of labels

Yeah large volumes of roll labels are usually offset or litho printed, but there are big setups for these processes, so its not cost effective for small runs, I can print 200 2.5" round labels using my method in less than 40" of vinyl and about 15 minutes of table time, so there is still decent...
  12. Roll of labels

what equipment do you have? We run short roll label runs quite often, we kiss cut them then through cut them into strips on our Summa F1612, then splice the strips together with tape. works great for shorter runs, longer runs we outsource.
  13. Who has the best price on 18"x24" DS Coro Full Color

Depending on what equipment you have, that is not always the case, even if you have a flatbed printer, for 100 d/s signs it may still be cheaper to outsource them.
  14. Small laser

Weve had amazing luck with Trotec, but it sounds like it would be overkill for your needs, I would look at a second hand unit or a offshore model to get your feet wet, then decide. Rabbit Laser is an importer of Chinese lasers, but they offer American support, same with Boss Laser.
  15. Flatbed cutter - Drag knife vs kiss cut tool

I'm not sure about you machine, but on our summa flatbed, the kiss cutting tool is mostly used the same way a normal plotter is used, for die cutting vinyl, then the through cutting knife is used for cutting all the way through the vinyl and paper. The kiss cut tool can be used to cut through...
  16. Zund / Oce Procut VS Summa flatbed cnc

Or imagine if there was a worldwide health pandemic and you couldn't fly a tech in even if you wanted to, I know, it's hard to believe such a scenario...
  17. White on transparant for small labels

For the 2-3 small jobs a year we get asked about it's not worth setting up the white in our Epson, I have a white cartridge, but I've never used it. My understanding is that it takes about an hour to prepare the machine for the white ink, then another hour to take it out after, wasting a bunch...
  18. White on transparant for small labels

Buy a used Gerber edge for $2000 and do them on there, the edges are.tanks and will run forever
  19. WTF (What the Frosting)

Clients are notoriously unreliable sources of information.
  20. WTF (What the Frosting)

Its definitely installed on both sides of the glass. Its impossible to tell what kind it is from the pics, in some it looks like a standard silver etch like etchmark, in others it looks more milky like frosted crystal
