  1. Bad Fire Evacuation Maps

In the majority of them that I've been a part of, the customer (usually the property manager or- if a new building, the GC) is too cheap to pay for the layout (because the ones who want it done never seem to have drawings of the buildings or anything you need) to be done properly, so they have...
  2. Vinyl by the yard

I'll add my name to the shorting is rare crowd. The one or two times it happened, the supplier made it right. We almost always get 6" or more extra when ordering by the yard- I'm thinking the supplier does it to be sure. I'd suggest going over the head of the person you've been dealing with if...
  3. Flexi importing capabilities

The only part I can answer is that I always had better luck using EPS files from Illustrator in Flexi than I did using AI files. Strangely, though, Corel's AI exports sometimes worked better in Flexi than the EPS exports did.
  4. Corel to PDF issues...

It's the "worth their salt" part that is usually problematic.
  5. Help with a sign stand

I'd think polycarbonate would be more durable, but good lord- the price. How about using small u-channel aluminum extrusion and running LEDs inside it (lens on the front)? Or is the guy wanting the whole thing to glow?
  6. Need Help Issue with trim-cap installation results

I'm wondering how the people that made the original faces got them on if your tracing them resulted in faces that were too small... As others have mentioned, you have limited options. Good luck.
  7. Meloc osv11

Someone managed to get your serial number and is using your software is pretty much all that can mean, I think. Perhaps a former employee has decided to go into business for themselves and copied the software without you knowing about it and you're now locked out. The only thing I can think of...
  8. Opinions for new laminator needed - interested in one with take-up...

We run GFP Orca III laminators and have been quite happy with them.
  9. Red and yellow sections of print have strange marks

I should've known my answers weren't right! Now that I see your solution though, I do remember their "wave" patterns. I guess I just never saw one far enough out to show that kind of result!
  10. Red and yellow sections of print have strange marks

Wow- if you hadn't specified the material, I'd swear that was a banner! My guesses: - Something in the media that doesn't show up (until it gets ink on it)? - In the design, maybe? Honestly never seen an error like that, but don't run a Mutoh any more.
  11. Need Help GS 750plus Rental

Since Gerber equipment is often pricey to buy, I'd imagine they do charge premium prices. The trade-off for the price is a very good machine. Honestly, though, the only time I've ever heard of anything like a rental unit is when I've sent one in for service and the repair outlet gives me one to...
  12. Punching/sprocketing machine for making my own Gerber vinyl?

I'm with Bill- it might be easier (and far less expensive, time-wise) to purchase a friction fed plotter instead of a sprocket fed model. If you're talking about an Edge, though... try Oracal? They have a plant in Germany and make punched media in their high performance lines. It might be...
  13. Custom Cut Vinyl Color

Pretty sure that Gerber 220 is still around. You wouldn't have to laminate if you painted it, but you'd need a painter who was consistent. I suggest going through the manufacturer's color charts and checking for your color (Avery has quite a few PMS colors). If none of them suit you, I'd suggest...
  14. Third Party Ecosol Max inks, Cuantek Review?

I had a nice, well thought out and carefully worded response typed out- but I'm going to skip that and just say you got lucky with the OEM inks, plain and simple.
  15. Third Party Ecosol Max inks, Cuantek Review?

The question of the reliability of non-OEM inks is somewhat moot here. Whether you got good results with OEM inks or not- you're using media that's not suitable for what you're doing with it and you compound your initial error by not laminating the prints. So even if you were using digital media...
  16. Question Flexisign file

Flexi (FS) files are proprietary. I've never come across any software other than SAi's (the maker) that will open them.
  17. bar code decals

Seems to me like Flexi has a function for this, as does SignLab (I know EngraveLab does). You could also use Free Barcode Generator - Create barcodes here and save as an EPS.
  18. Question Flexisign file

While I personally like Flexi, it's benefits depend on what you plan on using it for. It's a good program for production, but not for design. - It's great for plotting, it can be a good RIP on the right machine when you've profiled properly, and it's nesting function is quite useful in...
  19. After cutting, reset blade to left position

Ours starts and finishes on the "right" side (when you're facing it). Only thing I could suggest is changing your origin to the left side.
  20. Need Help Has anyone tried to print to this material???

GFC used to offer an optically clear that worked pretty good. Can't recall the part number. The 3M is pricey, but it's the best I've come across.
