If you have the parallel to usb adapter and 6 old cartridges, either download the driver or use flexi or equivalent that has the driver and you should be able to get it up and running. Don't quote me on it though.

The only time the head should disconnect, is when it is in the lock position and the cutter needs to move independently, eg: scanning crop marks, width or cutting etc. The head carriage is only attached to the cutter carriage with a magnet. If it releases any other time, something is preventing...

Both are good machines and wont let you down. You can spend $1.5k on either to have it back up to original condition.

Sell it as a complete unit..Cost you more to strip it than you will ever make back off the parts unless you want the spares for another machine. One mans rubbish maybe another mans treasure.

If the head carriage isn't hitting anything, the bearing in the print carriage needs removing and cleaning and relubricating, or replacing if its the same as other printers. Its usually the cutter carriage bearing that wears out first, but in your case it sounds like the print carriage one...

Those are ok if just starting out, Flexisign and Signlab tops all imo Photoshop if dealing with prints too helps
